QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Disagree

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Agree

I support voluntary physician-assisted suicide to end the suffering of terminally ill adults with grievous and irremediable medical conditions. There should be strict rules governing access to assisted suicide. If they are not met, anyone who aids another person in killing themselves should be guilty of a crime.

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I agree with California's limitations on abortion rights. The right to abortion care should be absolute when the fetus is not yet viable and when the procedure is necessary to protect the health and life of the mother. A fetus becomes viable if it is likely to sustain survival outside the uterus without extraordinary medical measures. Upon viability, abortion should only be legal when it is necessary for the life or health of the mother.

ECONOMY

Redistribution of income is needed to lessen the gap between the wealthy and working classes.

Strongly Agree

Jeff Bezos makes ~$150,000 every minute while around half of American families cannot afford a $400 emergency. Yes, I agree, we need to redistribute income so the men and women who do the actual work to keep our country's economy running are fairly compensated and not taken advantage of.

The government should cut spending in order to reduce the national debt.

Strongly Disagree

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

We need a progressive tax system in this country that makes sure the rich pay their fair share. Today, major corporations pay nothing in federal income taxes and corporate CEOs pay an effective tax rate that is lower than their staff's. It is unacceptable that the working class is asked to carry a proportionally larger burden than the wealthiest Americans. I support the following: Increasing the top marginal tax rate on income above $10 million Ending special tax breaks on capital gains and dividends for the richest Americans Eliminating the cap on Social Security payroll taxes Enacting a tax on Wall Street speculation Enacting a Wealth Tax

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Choose not to answer

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Agree

I agree with Justice Kennedy's opinion in the Masterpiece Cakeshop vs Colorado Civil Rights Commission case: "while those religious and philosophical objections are protected, it is a general rule that such objections do not allow business owners and other actors in the economy and in society to deny protected persons equal access to goods and services under a neutral and generally applicable public accommodations law.”

What should be the relationship between the church and the state?

HEALTHCARE

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

Did not answer

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

A - I support Medicare for All

NATIONAL SECURITY

With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.

Did not answer

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Strongly Agree

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Agree

The consequences of our overreliance on Chinese manufacturing are obvious with today's supply chain issues. We must reshore manufacturing vital to our national security, from necessities like masks and PPE to computer chips. But let me be clear: the Chinese Communist Party did not force American corporations to take manufacturing abroad. Corporate CEOs and major shareholders are choosing to prioritize their own profits over American national security and American workers.

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

When the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) was passed, the State Department had 32 foreign terrorist organizations on record. Twenty years and $6 trillion later, the number of foreign terrorist organizations stands at 69. We must repeal the 2001 AUMF and reinstate Congressional oversight and government accountability of our military programs.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Disagree

State and federal funds shall be denied to any public or private entity, such as a sanctuary city, that is not in compliance with immigration laws.

Strongly Disagree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Did not answer

VALUES

Sexual orientation and gender identity should be protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Strongly Agree

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Choose not to answer

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Agree

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

I support the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act

EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Choose not to answer

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.

Disagree

Oil and gas production does need to be mostly shut down. However, even as we end our reliance on combustion in the transportation sector (not easily done for heavy transportation), oil will still be needed for the production of plastics, chemicals, fertilizer, etc. that are necessary and that we have not found alternatives for yet. We either need to learn how to capture/eliminate emissions, or we need to find alternatives to these products.

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

Both answers are overly broad. I support necessary environmental laws and regulations that protect our environment and our health. However, I support nuclear energy and some unnecessary environmental regulations are prohibiting us from developing our nuclear fleet.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Disagree

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Agree
