QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Agree

I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.

Strongly Agree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Laws that go beyond the public's willingness to accept them do not endure. As such, I support the exceptions in current Indiana law.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Choose not to answer

God ordained marriage as between one man and one woman. Marriage ultimately is a religious sacrament and should be defined by the churches, allowing civil partnerships to be defined as the state.

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

Yes

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

“Separation of church and state” is a political argument, not a constitutional one, since the phrase is not found in either the U.S. Constitution or the Indiana Constitution. The First Amendment says Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. Likewise, the Indiana Constitution says no religious test shall be required for any public office. I affirm these constitutional principles.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Strongly Agree

HEALTHCARE

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

Disagree

The government's responsibility is to create the conditions that keep healthcare affordable and accessible.

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

The system needs a complete overhaul. Nonprofit hospitals should truly operate as nonprofit institutions. The government should cease subsidizing unhealthy food choices. Market forces, price transparency, and personal responsibility should form the foundation of our system, and qualified healthcare practitioners should have greater autonomy to treat patients without the heavy hand of government interference.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Disagree

It is the government’s responsibility to create the conditions that allow citizens to have an equal opportunity to earn a livable income. Government should provide security, access to quality schools, protection of property rights, and defend a moral culture that allows citizens to pursue happiness and be rewarded for wise decisions. Ultimately, government cannot—and should not—force someone to make the decisions that would lead to a livable wage.

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Agree

While governments should provide opportunities for education, the purpose of those schools should be to prepare the next generation of citizens with the knowledge and character traits necessary for self-government and the preservation of liberty. Individuals should also be free to direct some resources to meet the needs of their families through school choice.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

As a Senator, I have only voted for balanced budgets. This has required trimming waste and fat in too many ways to list here.

IMMIGRATION

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Strongly Agree

State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.

Strongly Agree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Our immigration system should function more like the admissions process at a selective university. Just as a university accepts qualified and vetted applicants for a specified number of openings across different majors and programs, our country should strategically assess the needs of our economy and match applicants to those needs. Most importantly, immigration should be limited to those who embrace the founding principles expressed in the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.

2ND AMENDMENT

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

Yes

There are parents who would have their children with them today if a teacher had been allowed to earn this responsibility. It should be voluntary and accompanied with proper training, vetting, and local decision making.

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Public safety is maximized when good guys are allowed to exercise their Constitutional rights, and when laws bringing justice to those who commit gun crimes are aggressively enforced. I support the right to bear arms and to self defense.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Strongly Disagree

Normalizing drug use is not good for society and it certainly isn't conservative. No state has had the experiment go well, and any additional revenues are offset by the financial burden of aggravated society ills.

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?

1.) End subsidies for corporations that don't need them such as data centers. 2.) Reform the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) 3.) Improve civics and U.S. history instruction by refocusing public education on its intended purpose: preparing citizens for self-government

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.

Strongly Disagree

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

Every year I have been in the Senate I have earned a 100% conservative rating from the Indiana Family Institute: https://hoosierfamily.org/resources/legislative/ I also have a 100% rating from Americans for Prosperity: https://indianascorecard.com/#/ In 2025, only eight out of 50 State Senators earned a perfect score on both rankings making me quantifiably one of the Senate's most conservative Senators.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I worked in the President’s Office of Purdue University from 2011 to 2022, including service as deputy chief of staff and a communications and public policy advisor to Mitch Daniels. I previously worked as a communications and public policy research aide in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington D.C., as well as in the private sector in marketing and strategic communications. I have a bachelor’s degree in communications with minors in business and political science, and a master’s degree from the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration at The George Washington University, where I graduated at the top of the class. I have served in the Senate since 2022.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

NO

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

State Senator Spencer Deery? was elected in 2022, following his first bid for any elected office. Deery is a Republican who represents Senate District 23, which includes Fountain, Parke, Vermillion and Warren counties and portions of Montgomery and Tippecanoe counties. He serves the Senate committees on Commerce and Technology, Education and Career Development, Health and Provider Services, Corrections and Criminal Law, and Utilities. He also represents Indiana on the Midwest Higher Education Compact (MHEC) executive committee, which aims to promote best practices and cost-sharing opportunities among Midwestern public universities. Deery grew up in a rural community as the son of an elementary school principal and a public school teacher. He and his wife, Julia, have been married for nearly two decades and have made their home in Tippecanoe County, where they are raising three school-aged children. Julia is the director of a large preschool in West Lafayette and leads a women’s organization at the family’s church. Deery worked in the President’s Office of Purdue University from 2011 to 2022, including service as deputy chief of staff and a communications and public policy advisor to Mitch Daniels. He now works as a special assistant for Purdue University Global and President Emeritus Daniels. He previously worked as a communications and public policy research aide in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington D.C., as well as in the private sector in marketing and strategic communications. Deery speaks fluent Spanish and holds a bachelor’s degree in communications with minors in business and political science, and a master’s degree from the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration at The George Washington University, where he graduated at the top of the class. Deery grew up active in Boy Scouts and went on to become an Eagle Scout. He credits this experience with giving him a strong belief in the American experiment, the wisdom of the U.S. Constitution and the importance of duty, honor and integrity. He enjoys coaching his children in sports, serving in the family's church, and competing in long-distance running obstacle course races.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Strongly Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

Jesus Christ is my Savior. He is the way, and the only way. He is the truth, and all truth comes from Him. His grace and love are my salvation. When I fall short, I know it is because of Him that I still have hope. When I am faced with illness or death, it is because of Him that I know the grave is not the end. I have dedicated my life to serving Him, and that mission drives and focuses me each day, especially as I strive to pass those values onto my children.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Strongly Disagree

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Racism is a threat to domestic security, but I do not believe it is common or intense in most American communities. Even so, we should never dismiss it. All of God’s children are created equal and are worthy of dignity, respect, and liberty.
