Janie Lopez’s parents migrated from Mexico as legal citizens in a quest for a better life in the United States of America. Janie grew up as a middle child of seven siblings. Her parents worked hard to instill in her the importance of hard work and education in achieving the American dream. She graduated from San Benito High School in 1997 and became the first in her family to attend and graduate from college with honorary awards. ? Janie has worked in everything from food service, manufacturing, and retail to building a successful career as a mental healthcare professional treating at-risk children, veterans and first responders suffering from PTSD. As a counselor for our local school districts, Janie has managed millions of dollars in budgets for school counseling programs under her leadership as a Director in the San Benito CISD. Student achievement increased and disciplinary referrals were reduced by 60% in elementary schools. She served as a GEAR UP counselor in Brownsville CISD’s lowest performing campus and helped transform it into a high performing school rated #1 for Science and #2 for History with state exams in the district. ? As a San Benito school board trustee, Janie works to ensure financial accountability in all aspects of the ISD’s budget and projects. In addition to fiscal responsibility for student activities, academics, and day-to-day expenditures of departments and campuses, Janie was pivotal in getting an increased police force in our schools to secure our classrooms. She also improved infrastructure, oversaw the completion of critical new sports facilities, ensured educator and staff pay raises, and provided checks and balances for incoming local, state, and federal funds. ? Guided by her Christian values, we can count on Janie to represent the conservative family values of Willacy and Cameron Counties. As our next State Representative Janie will work to lower the cost of living, fully secure our border, properly fund our schools, protect life in the womb, stop the dangerous defunding of police, fight human trafficking, and defend the constitutional rights of Texans.

Strongly Agree
