QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
The “heartbeat bill” which was passed in the last legislature is a giant leap forward in the fight to protect innocent life in Texas. I believe that abortion should be as close to non-existent as possible, but would support narrow exceptions if the life of the mother is in danger or if the pregnancy came about due to a criminal act.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
As a former local elected official, I can tell you that the burden of unfunded mandates coming down from the federal and state government must be stopped. By using unfunded mandates, those at the federal and state level can raise your taxes without having to take responsibility for it. Rather, they mandate that local elected officials raise your taxes to pay for programs they deem necessary, even if they are not in the best interest of our communities. I believe that every mandate that is passed down from on high must also be accompanied by an appropriation to pay for it.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
The Texas Constitution requires that we pass a balanced budget every two years, so this is really a question for federal candidates. However, by reducing the amount of waste, inefficiency, and downright fraud that exists at all levels of government, we can make it much easier to balance the budget in each legislative session.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Disagree
I again look to our U.S. Constitution and review the rights that we as AMERICANS were given.
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
There are no circumstances where the government (America) should close a church. I believe that is a sacred right given to us in the U.S. Constitution. Our forefathers founded our nation based on a strong belief in the almighty GOD.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
There is no circumstance where the government should be allowed to require vaccines directly or indirectly via coercion of private businesses. I am a big believer in personal responsibility, and it is a very slippery slope if we start allowing the government to dictate decisions like this.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
Strongly Secure Our Borders NOW. We should strongly enforce the immigration laws that are in the federal statues. Those wanting to come into our country should RESPECT our laws. I would cut off ALL MONEY to any group, inside or outside of the United States, when caught violating our laws. All NON-citizens would not be entitled to any U.S. government benefits until after becoming lawful citizens of our great nation.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Disagree
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
I believe those who will abide by our immigration laws, whether refugee or lay person, should be allowed the opportunity to immigrate as long as they respect and follow our Constitution
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I identify myself as being a Christian Conservative. I was raised in a strong, middle class Christian home in a rural setting, My up bringing taught me to respect all individuals regardless of their race or religion. I believe that we were all created by GOD and must serve Him well. I support the Separation of Church and State, as outlined in our Constitution by our Forefathers. I believe Christianity should serve as an important rule in all of our lives.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
By displaying photo identification, this would help discourage and prevent VOTER FRAUD.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
I believe most of these issues were addressed by the Texas Legislature during their last legislative session. Voter Integrity must constantly be guarded.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
I believe that most of our racial issues are caused by a very bias liberal news media.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Agree
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Our government should provide our citizens with a safe and healthy living environment as well as with safe and law abiding communities. Also, to better meet the every day needs of our citizens and be able to elect public servants who would truly stand up and represent the people that elected them to office. Government does not need to be abusive to her citizens.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Most of my comments on these topics have been made in some type of public form. Those that know me respect me for my views on this topic.
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
I currently have none available.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
NO
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
I have been involved in County Government for over 45 years, retiring on December 31, 2020, after serving 20 years as Sheriff of Limestone County, Texas. During my 20 years as a Texas Sheriff, I have always considered myself to be a SERVANT to those I have served. I have spent my entire career working to keep my neighbors safe. I will faithfully work with all in order to secure our borders, work always to cut taxes and seek to prevent state regulations that often are harmful to our smaller businesses. I will support policies that will jump start our economy and create a stronger work force reducing unemployment. I am very PRO-LIFE and PRO-GUN defending our Constitutional Rights, starting with Right to Life. I will oppose any effort to restrict our ability to keep and bear arms. Being a Christian Conservative, I will also strongly oppose any attempts to DEFUND the police and see that we prevent implementation of Critical Race Theory in our Texas Schools. I also will oppose forced vaccine mandates on Texas Families, as well as businesses.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Strongly Agree
The role of a Law Enforcement Officer in today's society has become extremely difficult and dangerous. Across the nation, the number of sworn officers is drastically declining. Without the protection provided by qualified immunity, Law Enforcement Officers working to keep our communities safe would be exposed to grave dangers and Public Safety would be at risk. I believe better educational officer training paired with consistently upgrading department policies, when needed.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Disagree
I am a very strong supporter of making changes in the Behavior Healthcare System all across our nation. I have many years of experience of working in the Behavioral Health Care System and trying to improve the interactions between Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice System and the Behavioral Health Care System. All three must work together in order to serve those who are struggling with these issues. County Jails SHOULD NOT be used as Mental Health Hospitals.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
None. We have a constitutional right to keep and bare arms.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
