QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

To preserve the mother's life

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Choose not to answer

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

Our rights, including our Freedom of Religion, are given to us by God, not government, protected by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. As such, our rights shall not be infringed upon by government.

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

None. Freedom of Religion is our God-given right, protected by the First Amendment

NATIONAL SECURITY

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

The number one thing that the US can do to mitigate terrorist risk from any source is to secure the Southern border. Terrorism exists whenever the terrorists sense weakness. A weak resolve, appeasement, military failure, and lack of principles, among other factors, invite a terrorist attack. To eradicate the threat, we must do so from a position of strength. Also, if any country chants “death to America” we would be wise to believe them and act accordingly.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Strongly Disagree

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

My view is most closely related to (C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. However, this can only be true if affordable, private insurance is available. There is no doubt that the high cost of insurance and limited choice is directly the fault of Federal and State governments. These include expanded coverage mandates and elimination of basic plans, as examples. Other governmental activity has substantially increased the cost of providing health services. It has also driven the family doctor out of small, private practices. If the goal is low-cost, high-availability of service, then there is much work to be done across many governmental policies.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

None. Our Constitutional Freedom, body autonomy, and religious exemption should never be at stake. That being said, a vaccine represents society’s best scientific effort to make the world healthy. We should be proud of those scientific achievements. Most vaccines drastically improve life, so if the risks/benefits are favorable, then individuals will voluntarily take them. There is too much risk of political or economic malfeasance associated with coercive mandates.

ECONOMY

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

Some say that the tax code is 70,000 pages. It is clear that no one, neither tax administrator nor tax payer, can understand something that complex. Like much of our law, common sense does not apply consistently and special interests have too much influence. The time, cost, and burden of compliance is shameful. Everyone should pay their fair share to support the lawful and necessary governmental services. However, the tax code incorporates welfare-type social spending and coercive policy incentives. If these payments are necessary, they should be legislated directly so they are on-budget and not hidden from scrutiny through tax collection agencies. As a business owner, home owner, and property owner, I understand the need to reform property taxes because they are completely out of control. As we continue to research the best solution to get property taxes under control, I am definitely in favor of reducing taxes to the absolute lowest level possible, while also implementing some restrictions on outlandish appraised values.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

The administrative state grows and grows. In particular, the Federal Government duplicates many agencies that are better served by State activity which is also probably more consistent with Constitutional obligations. Seems to me that there is room to eliminate overlapping and duplicative governmental operations as a way to reduce cost and eliminate bureaucracy.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Disagree

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Immigrants have always been welcomed in America, and they have contributed to the success of the country both economically and culturally. We should welcome people from around the world who support hard work, freedom, and America. We should not accept criminals, free-riders, or those who dislike America.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Agree

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Disagree

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

None. Our freedom to keep and bear arms is protected in the 2nd Amendment

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.

Disagree

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

The basic role of government is to provide national security, maintain public safety and provide public services. The limitations of our government are provided in the Constitution.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

Republican Voting Record, Service on Republican Party of Texas Platform Committee

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

My priorities for Texas State Senate District 27 are: Economy - Support Small Businesses by reducing taxes, government regulations, and creating business-friendly conditions to attract more businesses and jobs. Public Safety - We MUST have well-funded, well-trained, and well-equipped Law Enforcement, Firefighters, and all First Responders and we MUST SECURE OUR BORDER! Education - Address classroom sizes, state-mandated testing, pay scales for teachers, and support vocational career paths at the high school and college levels to create a much needed labor force in District 27.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.

Choose not to answer

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am Christian who is not ashamed to profess Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I believe that our forefathers established the framework of our government with Judeo-Christian values. As such, we have an obligation to protect our governmental framework from deviating from those values. And as individuals, we should all strive to be "Christ-like" and love our neighbors as ourselves.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

Election integrity is of paramount importance. Texas recently passed SB 1 which strengthened vote protection, and I support that effort. I support clean voter rolls, voter ID, voting by mail with safeguards, election observers, chain of custody standards, and an auditable process. I disapprove ballot harvesting and electronic-only ballots.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

There are and will always be racists among us. However, I do not believe that the racism is systematic or responsible for the overall success or failure of a class of individuals. I believe and I think that most Americans would agree that all people are created equal and should be judged by the content of their character. The danger to the United States is the divisive actions of the race-baiters. This is a relatively new problem as a widespread issue. It is a threat to individual success, social stability, and political discourse. Very sad and unnecessary.

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

I don’t think that either statement reflects my view. Environmental protection is an important consideration to protect our health and the future for our children. Every law has a cost and benefit that must be considered on its own merits. People have to understand that necessary human activity has associated risk of pollution. Two years ago, America was energy independent through the production of domestic hydrocarbons. It produced wealth, jobs, and global security, among other benefits. Recently, we have lost those benefits as a result of conscious policy choices, only some of which were laws. With a change of policy, probably through new political leadership, we can regain those benefits. There was pollution before and pollution after...the biggest difference is that we don’t get the benefits.

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
