QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Neutral
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Neutral
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
None of this is up to the state (government) to decide. My religious beliefs do not extend beyond myself. I don't believe the government should tell anyone what they can or can't do when it comes to their health, body, or life.
ECONOMY
Redistribution of income is needed to lessen the gap between the wealthy and working classes.
Disagree
Investing in communities that have been negatively impacted due to historical inequities in order to allow for opportunities that didn't exist for that community is important for the overall economic improvement of regions.
The government should cut spending in order to reduce the national debt.
Agree
Our national debt has spiraled out of control. We must make the necessary cuts and reallocations in order to incrementally decrease the nation's debt. The current budget process is not being used but instead continued resolutions are being used as political weapons. We must be better stewards of public funds.
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
We must close loopholes in the tax code that allow mega-corporations to retain money that is not subject to taxation. This would not include midsize companies or large companies that are expanding to provide more jobs in the communities in which they exist.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Private businesses and citizens do not have to comply with government regulations or mandates when it comes to moral or religious beliefs. The requirement for broad services would fall on government entities or entities receiving government funds.
What should be the relationship between the church and the state?
Historically, we are a protestant population however our nation is much more diverse now. The Constitution was written in a way that kept government involvement limited. The Establishment Clause of the First Amendment infers that church and state should be separate. Thomas Jefferson wrote to the church stating the clause built a "wall of separation between the church and state". James Madison felt the state should not support a particular religion. Lemon v. Kurtzman (1971) established a three-prong test to be constitutional a statute must have "a secular legislative purpose", it must have principal effects that neither advance nor inhibit religion and it must not foster, ' an excessive government entanglement with religion."
HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Schools already require vaccinations to keep children protected against diseases that historically disabled or killed them. The effort to keep our children safe is extremely important however extensive research and parent involvement should be practiced before implementing these types of requirements. The military is similar in needing a healthy organization to be at the ready for our nation's defense. Arbitrary vaccinations that have not had years of testing should not be required until proven to be safe and effective.
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
B is the most closely matched to my views on healthcare. There is a very large gap in coverage or the ability to pay for coverage for above-the poverty line homes but below upper-middle-class homes. I know countless people living in this gap as I once did.
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
Between B and C. If we wait until C then it is likely too late and we will endure suffering and death. We must ensure that threats to allies are taken seriously or we will find ourselves weakened in the eyes of tyrannical governments. This will increase the risk of attacks to our nation on our soil.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Neutral
This is not a movement we should take up. The United States should stay out of the conflicts of the people of Israel and Arab-Palestinians.
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
The United States must take these threats seriously and build a force of people within the private and government sectors that can combat the cyber security issues that threaten our economic stability.
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
This clearly did not work over the last 20 years. The people of the countries who have these terrorist groups must have a desire to change their communities and governments. Sending resources that allow these countries to help themselves is the most we should unless war is provoked directly towards the United States.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Agree
The United States needs more border patrol officers however training needs to be improved. The court systems must implement quicker processing to determine if a person is to stay due to valid refugee status or to be sent back to their country of origin. This will require giving the courts the resources they need to process these cases faster.
State and federal funds shall be denied to any public or private entity, such as a sanctuary city, that is not in compliance with immigration laws.
Disagree
This will do more harm to the American citizens in these areas than prevent immigration issues. Withholding funds that these citizens paid in and having no control over the local entities except at periodic elections is not the way to go about dealing with immigration.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Immigration is a complicated topic. There are several types of immigration. Those fleeing genocide or war states should be given refuge after vetting the validity of their claim. All others should go through the legal means to enter the United States.
VALUES
Sexual orientation and gender identity should be protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
