QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

If, by the determination of her licensed medical doctor, a mother's life is in jeopardy, abortion should be allowed. I am pro Life - and saving a life is saving a life.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Strongly Disagree

Death is a part of life. There are lessons we still need to learn by going through the death process. The Hypocritic Oath states to "do no harm". Euthanasia is ending life.

ECONOMY

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

Tax code is a very complicated set of laws and it depends on if you are talking about federal tax code on individuals (income tax), or State and local codes on Business and property. There are many changes to various tax codes that should be considered. One that I would like to see implemented is a tax on money being sent out of the US via money orders and other wire transfers. 40 Billion dollars were sent to Mexico in 2020 from the US. I'd like to see us tax that transfer of money in order to fund enhanced border security measures. A ten percent tax would net the US 40 million dollars a year that could be used to secure the border. As a state legislator, I would like to find a way to enact this tax, but it will be difficult to address this transfer of wealth since it is an international transfer and not an intra-state transfer. As a state legislator, I would like to enhance free port exemptions on business and reduce local entities power to tax inventory. Taxing inventory is an onerous levy on a growing segment of the Texas economy. And of course, we all know the need to reduce private property tax. In order to achieve a meaningful reduction in property tax, we are going to have to continue to address the mechanisms to fund public education K-12. I believe in strong local control of public education, so I am concerned that if we increase funding from State to public education that there will be calls for more central control of our schools- which I am against. I believe there are core functions of government that need to function in order to provide for the safety and general welfare of our state. If a tax has been enacted that does NOT meet these core functions of government - then that tax should be removed entirely. A "reduction" of a tax is a good start, but as long as the code allows for a tax, there will be powers that will want to finds ways to increase that tax. If elected as a State Representative, I plan to be review all state taxes.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

I am running to serve as a State Legislator. The state of Texas is required to submit a balanced budget every two years. As a state representative, I will work to ensure we don't end that practice.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

College is not for everyone. There are many education options available to graduating seniors that do not require attending a four year college. I think if we educated students in high school more about the return on investment (ROI) of pursuing additional training and education versus the effect of taking on debt, we could reduce the amount of college loan defaults by reducing the amount of students who assume that debt to begin with.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

I strongly believe in personal rights to private property and freedom of choice and free markets. If a business owner decides to turn away business- that is their personal decision. If a consumer wishes to boycott a business due to the business owner's decision - that too is a free market decision. Government should in no way decide winners and losers in the market place.

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

Government should not be able to close churches under any circumstances. The recent passing of the State of Texas Constitutional amendment insures that in Texas government, can not close any place of worship.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

D. The US government has never made anything better by providing the service - whether the service is for free or subsidized. The fair market of medicine, like most services, would be more affordable for all if those using the service had to work to find the best provider at the best cost.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

This is a topic that needs to be examined more closely. The term "vaccination" needs to be better defined. This question is obviously asking about the validity of "requiring" an inoculation that is not proven and tested to be free of negative impacts. There are certainly proven vaccinations that have been time tested that are important to consider ie measles, smallpox. Today in Texas, in order to attend tax payer funded public schools pre K though 12th - there are requirements for vaccinations to promote the general overall health of those attending these public schools. This is to protect minors. Once a person becomes an adult - over 18 - then that person needs to make personal decisions for their own welfare.. Now - back to private property - if an employer of a privately owned business wants to make a requirement for employment - such that the requirement does not violate the religious values of the employee - then the owner of that business has the right to request that requirement. Government has to be be sure to protect ALL RIGHTS. I believe this is most efficiently achieved through free markets and not by government edicts.

NATIONAL SECURITY

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

In my opinion, the best way to protect the United States from the threat of Islamic terrorism is to keep the fight in their back yard and not in our backyard. Currently, the nation states that see terrorism as a means to victory only understand might. The United State will have to keep pressure on these countries in THEIR countries in order to protect the United States. In addition to these thoughts, we are all concerned about the threat of known terrorists entering our country illegally across our southern border. This is just another of the hundreds of issues that negatively impact our country with having an unsecured border. But the true answer to eradicating the threat of Islamic terrorism is to change the hearts of people who radically believe that the United States is their sworn enemy and that the United States must be destroyed so that they can survive. Not that many years ago, the United States was at war with Japan and Germany. While the United States had many cultural ties with Germany - religion, relatives, business - the same was not true with Japan. After the war, these countries became democratic instead of autocratic. The people had a voice. The United States helped these countries craft new forms of government and trade began. And with trade came peace. After the cold war with the USSR, the same was almost true, until Putin rose back to power and turned Russia back into an autocratic country. Our "enemies" are not free, democratically elected countries. In order for the United States to "eradicate" the threats of Islamic terrorism, these theocracies/dictatorships are going to have to change and become true democratically elected governments. The United States tried to achieve this same formula in Iraq and Afghanistan, but sadly, it did not work. The people of these countries are going to have to demand and fight for a democracy. Until then, the United States will have to keep the fight with these dictators in their back yard.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Strongly Disagree

This question is asking if it is ok to punish Israel through economic means. Absolutely not. Israel has the right to defend itself from all enemies. The United States must stand with Israel - period.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Agree

There are some areas that could be secured with a physical barrier and there are many areas where that is not practical. I think the key is in the private property owners along the border and working with them.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

The US has a legal process for legal immigration. This policy needs to be upheld by our federal government.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Agree

I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.

Disagree

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am an evangelical Christian. I believe the Bible is the source of truth. I believe life begins at conception and continues until natural death.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

Each state is responsible for it's own election laws. I believe that Texas has good election laws in place.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

No.

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

a.

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.

Agree

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

The purpose of the US government to protect the citizens, provide defense from threats both foreign and domestic.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

I have a voting record that is available that shows I have only voted Republican in the past. I have attend 6 Republican state conventions as a delegate. I returned a portion of my annual budget to the county every year I served as district clerk in Hill County.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

NO

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

I am very concerned about rural Texas' ability to maintain a voice at the state level. We enjoy a way of life that is different than the majority of Texans but has value and supports conservative values across almost all sectors.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Agree

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Strongly Disagree

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

None

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.

Strongly Disagree
