OTHER INFORMATION
This candidate voted for H.R. 485, the Protecting Care for All Patients Act, which would prohibit federal health programs from using discriminatory measures known as Quality-Adjusted Life Years (QALYs.) A vote for the bill is a pro-life position that indicates opposition to reducing or eliminating care for people with various disabilities and chronic conditions.
One of 149 House Republicans who voted for H.R. 3746, the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023, which suspended the nation's debt limit through January 1, 2025. A vote for H.R. 3746 allows the government to spend without limitation for 19 months at an expected cost of $4 trillion.
QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Strongly Agree
In Congress, I've fought back against the Biden administration FDA's attempts to deregulate abortion drugs. I'm a cosponsor of the SAVE Moms and Babies Act, which would prevent approval of any future abortion drugs and reinstate rules governing those the FDA has already approved. I also joined an amicus brief in the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine case before the Supreme Court arguing that the court should overturn the FDA's anti-woman mail order abortion policy.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
Abortion should be permitted only when necessary to prevent the death of the mother
Does the federal government have a role to play in limiting abortion, and if so what federal steps and/or federal legislation would you support?
While I'm proud to live in a pro-life state like Mississippi, I believe the federal government should take additional actions to protect women and babies in EVERY state. I'm a proud cosponsor of legislation that would put the right to life at conception into federal law, and I voted to create federal protections for babies born alive during failed abortions.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
The idea of separation of church and state means there should not be a church directly affiliated with the state or national government. It doesn't place a restriction on the ability of Christians or other religious people from serving in government according to their values, and it doesn't mean that churches should be discriminated against in favor of secular institutions.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
B or C. There are a few allies that the United States should maintain our commitment to (most notably Israel and Taiwan), but we should not be in the business of engaging in foreign conflicts where we lack a clear national interest. When we do spend money in foreign countries, we need to have strict and specific accountability policies to ensure the money is being used according to our national interest.
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
In Congress, I've worked to push back on the CCP's efforts to steal intellectual property, buy up American farmland, and spy on the American people. The CCP is actively engaged in genocide of the Uyghur people, and they use slave labor to undercut American producers in key areas, including shrimping, which is critical to our economy in South Mississippi.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Yes. As a Christian and an American patriot, I am an unwavering supporter of the nation of Israel. Israel is America’s greatest ally in a region filled with hostile nations, and America is stronger and safer when Israel is also strong and safe.
What are the causes of decline in U.S. military recruitment and retention?
Military recruitment has been hurt by a decline in patriotism across the country, as well as by military policies that promote social agendas over military strength and readiness.
HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
No government entity—federal, state, or local—should require people who have religious objections to take vaccines.
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
C
ECONOMY
What actions would you take that would allow Americans to retain more of their income and wealth?
In Congress, I'm working to extend the savings the American people received from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that President Trump signed in 2017 and to rein in wasteful spending so we can continue cutting taxes.
Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.
Strongly Agree
I proudly cosponsored a resolution that would have overturned Biden's student loan transfer scheme. Unfortunately, this resolution was vetoed by President Biden.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
No
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
As a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, I helped author H.R. 2, the strongest border package to EVER pass the U.S. House of Representatives.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
We should prioritize high-skilled immigrants who immigrate legally, pass background checks, and will immediately become taxpaying members of society. Legal immigration is good if and only if the immigrants are properly vetted to ensure they will be contributing to our society and will not pose a threat to our national security.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Strongly Agree
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Agree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Strongly Disagree
As a career law enforcement officer, I will never support "defunding" the police.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
The Constitution is clear that law-abiding Americans should be able to own whatever firearms they desire.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
The Supreme Court should be reformed to include more seats.
Strongly Disagree
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Government exists to protect our God-given rights to life, property, and free expression (especially religious expression). The primary focus of our federal government should be in protecting our homeland from foreign threats—including at the southern border.
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
VALUES
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Agree
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
I'm proud to cosponsor legislation that would make it illegal to perform bodily mutilation surgeries on minors.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
I'm proud to cosponsor legislation that would guarantee no taxpayer dollars go to fund so-called gender transition surgeries.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a born-again evangelical Christian and a lifelong conservative. My wife and I are members of First Baptist Church in Pascagoula, where I've served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher and she has helped with our senior citizen ministry. My beliefs and values are rooted in my Christian faith. I believe God created each and every human being with an inherent dignity that begins at conception, and I believe government exists primarily to protect our God-given rights to life, property, and free expression (especially religious expression).
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I'm proud that Mississippi was one of the first states to successfully pass and keep voter ID laws. Ensuring the safety and security of our elections should be a top priority.
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
EQUALITY
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Disagree
Our climate has been changing for thousands of years. While I am not opposed to clean energy when done effectively, we should not be trading in energy solutions that work for virtue-signaling "green" standards. This is especially problematic because bureaucrats in the Biden administration are using regulations and red tape to prevent critical mineral manufacturing in the United States and allowing China to control the supply of batteries and other "green" energy technologies.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Oil and natural gas are still the most effective ways to power our country, and I don't expect that to change any time soon.
