OTHER INFORMATION
QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Life of the mother
ECONOMY
Redistribution of income is needed to lessen the gap between the wealthy and working classes.
Strongly Disagree
The government should cut spending in order to reduce the national debt.
Strongly Agree
I support a path to a balanced budget much like the plan that Senator Rand Paul has advocated and once balanced a balanced budget amendment.
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
I support a fairer, flatter tax structure. It has been proven over and over, if taxes are left in the hands of entrepreneurs, they will invest and grow jobs which in turn creates additional tax revenues.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
What should be the relationship between the church and the state?
The state should stay out of the free exercise of religion just as the US Constitution states.
HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
I am opposed to vaccine mandates. I trust parents to properly care for their children and I trust adults to make proper decisions about their own health. True public servants will provide citizens as much transparent information as possible but trust the people.
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
Choice C most closely represents my view. We need to encourage competition in healthcare which may mean eliminating Certificate of Need laws which guarantee monopolies and drives up costs. I believe there needs to be more transparency in medical costs so consumers can make better choice about how to spend their healthcare dollars.
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
Choice C most closely represents my view. The United States should only intervene when necessary by international treaty or where our national interests are at stake. I do not support sending my sons/daughter or yours to fight in Ukraine. I am a strong believer in the peace through strength doctrine. If we prepare for war, it will help us secure peace.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Disagree
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
First, we need to secure our borders. Next, we need to ensure Iran does not obtain nuclear weapons and continue to partner with Israel. The Biden administration is taking America down the wrong path by reversing the course of the Trump administration.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
Finish the wall and use all the tools to secure the border. Increase the number of border agents and support them.
State and federal funds shall be denied to any public or private entity, such as a sanctuary city, that is not in compliance with immigration laws.
Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
We must have a system to allow legitimate refugees to immigrate to the United States, like the Afghans who helped us during the war. There are rules which govern who and how to become a US Citizen.
VALUES
Sexual orientation and gender identity should be protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Agree
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I'm a born again Christian. I was raised in the church and my wife of 32 years raised our 3 children in the church. My faith is an integral part of my life.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Neutral
Oregon uses vote by mail and does not require picture id to vote. Oregon does require a signature match for votes to be counted. There are areas where Oregon's vote by mail should be tightened up. Requiring photo id really does not work with our system.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
First, I do not support federalizing elections like Biden and Wyden are trying to do right now in Congress. Leave the administration of elections to the states. I do not support ballot harvesting and believe voter roles should we updated on a regular basis.
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
We should treat everyone equally. As Martin Luther King said, on the "content of their character." There are forces at play in America that are creating the potential for racial unrest, but I believe most Americans are not racist. I align myself with the views expressed by Senator Tim Scott on this issue.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Agree
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
A is closer to my view.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
A person can listen to my interviews Lars Larson to verify this. The fact that I have been endorsed by Oregon Right to Life and the Taxpayer Association of Oregon are proof.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
As Oregon’s next United States Senator Darin Harbick will work every day for Oregonians. He will fight for us by -Combating inflation that is causing rising food and gas prices which affects every Oregon family. -Eliminating vaccine mandates and government overreach. -Supporting law and order, law enforcement and the rule of law. -Securing the southern border to stop drug and human trafficking. -Managing our natural resources, forests & federal lands, in a sustainable, renewable and accessible fashion. -Supporting the US constitution and amendments, freedom of speech and the second amendment. -Protecting the lives of the unborn. -Balancing the federal budget. -Reducing federal government regulations sending more power to the states. -Guaranteeing that every legal vote counts.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Agree
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
none
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
