Students should not be allowed to pray in school.
Strongly Disagree

EDUCATION
What is the function of the local school board?
1. The school board represents that taxpayers and parents of the community, as well as the teachers and staff. The school board member creates the governance controls and policies that enable the district to perform their functions. The nuance of the role is to provide clear direction so that schools and administrators understand the vision so that they can execute cleanly. My desire is to provide sufficient oversight to enable “localized” decisions by teachers and staff to fulfill their mandate in teaching and supporting our students. 2. The superintendent and administration manage the district, but do so under the supervision of the school board. I agree with the TASB statement on the matter – the superintendent and administration [work] “within the framework of policies and priorities [the] board adopts.” 3. Most importantly, the school board reflects the ideologies of the community. They are not the law, they are the elected representation of the community & their feedback.
Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?
The school board should be ultimately responsible for the resources used within school district's curriculum. The state of Texas sets core requirements for curriculum and performs services to solicit candidate publishers for book selection, and then they select candidates from those groups. The school board works within that framework and with local teachers / administration to select and approve a final curriculum, again once they prove they are meeting state requirements in coverage.
Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning
Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, English, History, Physical Fitness, American History, Art and Music, Language Arts, Foreign Language, Personal Finances, Vocational Learning - nothing else makes the list.
Our state should participate in the nationwide Common Core standards for high-school graduation.
Strongly Disagree
Schools should use Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum and resources to teach emotions, values, and relationships.
Strongly Disagree
I support the teaching of the 1619 Project emphasizing slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.
Strongly Disagree
When students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.
Agree
Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.
Disagree
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
Do you support mandatory vaccinations for children attending public school?
Absolutely not; no government has the right to mandate vaccines.
ABOUT YOU
Why are you running for this office?
My daughter is a 1st grader at Rennell Elementary. As a father, when I see leftist policies and comments from leaders at the school board, I want to volunteer my time to pull back our school board to conservative policies. As I have deepened my research into the board, I see with more clarity how pervasive leftist non-christian views are seeping into our curriculum. I want to stand in the way so that my child, and other children in our district have what I'd consider to be a "normal" childhood and grow up with a focus on excellence in academics, sports and the arts.
A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.
Disagree
Which of the 11 objectives specified in the Texas Education Code is your highest priority?
Parents will be full partners with educators in the education of their children. This is currently not being achieved in CFISD. Our school district school board is evasive, and has developed a similar culture among school administration. This must be corrected to restore school's partnership with the home.
What books have had the most profound impact on your view of life?
The bible, documents from our founding fathers. Ultimate Leadership by John Maxwell, A Patriot's History by Schweikart & Allen, Presidential Economics by Herbert Stein, Lincoln's American Dream by Deutsch and Fornieri, Original Intent by Barton, Start-Up Nation by Senor and Singer, Pyramid Principle by Minto, Security Analysis by Graham and Dodd. Most of my adult life has focused on business books, but the above contain historical book, leadership guidance, and policy discussions.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I am a parent of a first grader. I will experience first-hand the needs of my daughter, her classmates, fellow parents, our teachers, admin and staff. I taught children as a private teacher in college, and I taught band in Katy ISD. I have 4 degrees: Bachelors of Music Education from UH, Masters in Music from Rice, MBA from Rice, and MPA in Finance / Economics from Harvard. I've taught at Rice and Northwestern remotely since 2019. I have deep experience in education and inspiring students.
Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?
Very Conservative
Please defend your answer to the previous question by referencing your publicly available track record.
I am conservative fiscally being a capitalist. I am conservative socially concerning religion, rights of parents, and the personal responsibility of the individual to contribute to society and create and build opportunity. I am conservative in my views of governments ideal limited role in our economy and protecting our boarders.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
Never.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I am a father, not a politician. My family values public service; we do not consider serving on the school board as an opportunity for personal advancement, but as an opportunity to give back and serve our community. I'm investing in our kids and restoring conservative beliefs to our schools.
VALUES
No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student. All issues on this subject should be referred to the parents of the student.
Strongly Agree
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.
Agree
Teachers should not use alternative names and pronouns without parental permission.
Strongly Agree
Therapy to help children turn from unwanted same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria should be banned.
Disagree
I support allowing students to use public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms, and to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.
Strongly Disagree
No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.
Strongly Agree
Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?
The parents alone are responsible for teaching their child about sex, and they alone are qualified to determine when it should be taught.
If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex
I do not support replacing of a parent responsibility with school curriculum, as in the case of sex ed.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian; Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. I believe in the Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and I believe every person has the opportunity to know God personally and maintain direct communion with Him in prayer.
