EDUCATION
What is the function of the local school board?
The role of the school board is to provide local citizen governance and oversight over education at some point close to the parent and child. The function of the school board is to represent the values and expectations of the parents and community for our children. The board should act on behalf of the citizens of the school district providing excellent leadership through: ambitious goal-setting around high expectations for all students, fiscal/budget oversight, policymaking, program evaluation, facilities planning, community relations, and selection of district personnel held accountable to execute the values, vision and goals of the district in partnership with parents and the community.
Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?
The authority to set curriculum standards lies with the State Board of Education (elected) and is executed by the Texas Education Agency in alignment with the state assessment program. The local school board (elected)is given authority to determine what resources are used to teach these curricula and should do so with input from the community. However, should a local school board determine that state curriculum clashes with community values, they should fight for a waiver from the state to develop their own curriculum matching in rigor and high expectations for their children.
Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning
Priorities of a K-12 public school should include: Language Arts (Reading) STEM (Science, Technology (IT), Engineering, Mathematics) American History Art and Music Physical Fitness Foreign Language Vocational Learning Personal Finances Other areas listed are the responsibility of the family to teach or choose according to their values and beliefs.
Our state should participate in the nationwide Common Core standards for high-school graduation.
Strongly Disagree
Schools should use Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum and resources to teach emotions, values, and relationships.
Disagree
I support the teaching of the 1619 Project emphasizing slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.
Strongly Disagree
When students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.
Strongly Agree
Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.
Agree
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
Do you support mandatory vaccinations for children attending public school?
No. This a parental decision made with their medical provider.
ABOUT YOU
Why are you running for this office?
In order to accomplish our purposes as a nation, our schools must become factories of hope, built on academic excellence blended with family values, that empower students for a productive future. Schools have been taken captive by agendas working counter to our Judeo-Christian values and high expectations. These ideologies are promulgated unchecked in schools, while people of faith are muzzled. I am called to tear down the over-interpretation of separation of church and state in our schools by clarifying policy and staff training expectations. I also seek to increase the power of parents' voice and choice in the education of their child- allowing them to choose a school path best suited to their child's needs within their local school system. Having served in public schools for 29 years, being the parent of a school-aged child, and being a community volunteer give me unique perspective that will allow us to accomplish these goals together.
A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.
Strongly Disagree
Which of the 11 objectives specified in the Texas Education Code is your highest priority?
The highest priority is to achieve Obj. 4, with parents as full partners with educators in determining how it is best accomplish this for their child(ren) plus the community in full partnership in accomplishing it for all children: OBJECTIVE 4: A well-balanced and appropriate curriculum will be provided to all students. Through that curriculum, students will be prepared to succeed in a variety of postsecondary activities, including employment and enrollment in institutions of higher education
What books have had the most profound impact on your view of life?
The Bible.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I have 29 years of experience teaching and leading in schools with excellence, plus 33 years of community service. I am a life-long learner, pursuing post-graduate training in school entrepreneurship, redesign, and finance after completion of a doctoral degree. I am the parent of a school-aged child and serve on the Youth Ministry Team at my church- with these I am made aware daily of the challenges our students face. I am also an advocate for choice which I exercised for my child within an ISD.
Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?
Conservative
Please defend your answer to the previous question by referencing your publicly available track record.
I have served as a Teacher, Assistant Principal, School Support Officer, and Assistant Superintendent over the past 29 years. Throughout that time I have tried to make a clear demarcation about what was the school's job, the parents' job, and the community's role. There are places where these roles overlap- but the parents have the right to determine how their own child is educated and the community has a right to a certain basic education for every child to produce a prepared workforce. In these roles I have defended parents' rights and community rights with a clear demarcation between home and school. I have also fought for high expectations for all children to fulfill their whole potential and develop their God-given strengths with love.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I will work tirelessly to serve the students and families of our community. As a parent of a school-aged child, I am fully aware of the strengths and needs in our school system and will listen to parent voice and work to create parent choice.
VALUES
No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student. All issues on this subject should be referred to the parents of the student.
Strongly Agree
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
Teachers should not use alternative names and pronouns without parental permission.
Strongly Agree
Therapy to help children turn from unwanted same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria should be banned.
