EDUCATION

What is the function of the local school board?

Board members oversee policy implementation and make critical decisions on academics, athletics, and finances. I would also view my role as a school board trustee as that of a liaison and advocate between parents and the district. Open dialogue and willingness to listen to each other’s concerns can go a long way when done with respect and without egos, personal vendettas, and agendas.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

The legislative governance rests within the Board of Education for the state. The BOE reviews educational and state laws, policies, and material and adopts the curriculum and educational resources. The TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) for each subject are adopted by the BOE, and can be reviewed and revised accordingly. This is disseminated via the TEA (Texas Education Agency), which oversees public education of primary and secondary levels. I believe that parents, educators, and the community should be able to work collaboratively to weigh in on the curriculum and resources made available to students as a manner of checks and balances.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

ABOUT YOU

Why are you running for this office?

The current state of our schools in relation to the national political climate have seeped into the safety and education of our children. This adversely affects individuals and families, which, in turn, affects communities. As the mother of six CFISD students, two with special needs, I have experienced various aspects of the school system, and its effects on children. As a Family Counselor, I have also advocated for children, teachers, and families in our community. I recognize the importance and impact that I have as a mental health specialist and Chaplain, and strive to do the Lord's will in building His Kingdom. My priorities align with a return to Americanism, core educational values over self-serving interests, exceptional educational standards, values, and meeting individual goals vs. group think, and a full assessment and evaluation of the priorities which govern the district's budget, income, and maintenance.
