EDUCATION

What is the function of the local school board?

The function of the school board is to represent that community in which they serve. The board of trustees works collaboratively along with the Superintendent, which they are responsible for hiring to govern the district. They together set goals and monitor the success of those goals. They adopt policy and routinely measure the effectiveness of said policies. They must make it a priority to listen to all stakeholders and use that feedback to properly adjust goals and policies needed for the community as whole. Lastly, the board oversees setting the local tax rate.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

The State Board of Education has the responsibility of setting curriculum standards and reviews and adopts instructional materials for the State of Texas. The Texas Education Agency sets the TEKS and at the local level, the curriculum and instruction department recommends the adoption of instructional materials from the SBOE approved list to the Board of Trustees. In addition to the state adopted materials, classroom teachers use a variety of instructional materials to assist in the planning and delivery of content. Parents are entitled to review all teaching materials, instructional materials, and other teaching aids used in the classroom. Parents, Employees, or any District resident may formally challenge a resource used in the educational program based on appropriateness.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Mathematics, Science, American History, Language Arts, Physical Fitness, Vocational Learning, Personal Finances, Information Technology, Arts & Music, Foreign Language. Omitting: Political Activism, Critical Race Theory, Sexuality, Gender Identity, Social Emotional Learning

Our state should participate in the nationwide Common Core standards for high-school graduation.

Disagree

Schools should use Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum and resources to teach emotions, values, and relationships.

Disagree

I support the teaching of the 1619 Project emphasizing slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.

Strongly Disagree

When students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.

Strongly Agree

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

VALUES

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student. All issues on this subject should be referred to the parents of the student.

Strongly Agree

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

Teachers should not use alternative names and pronouns without parental permission.

Strongly Agree

Therapy to help children turn from unwanted same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria should be banned.

Strongly Agree

I support allowing students to use public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms, and to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

I believe this ultimately should be the responsibility of the parents. I want this to be left up to me as a parent to handle and I do not feel most children are equipped for this until at least later in middle school. Unfortunately, there are some parents who are not comfortable having this discussion and so they have been mandated as part of the curriculum in 7th and 8th grade.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

Physical and emotional health outcomes, contraceptive methods, consent, abstinence, human anatomy, stages of pregnancy and fetal development. I do not support support the teaching of sex acts to children.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian and follower of Christ.

ABOUT YOU

Why are you running for this office?

I am running for the CFISD School Board because I feel it is time for parents of school aged children to be more involved in the decisions that are affecting our kids in the classroom. We need to be on the school boards and let our voices be heard and our values represented. As a former educator of 15 years, the wife of an educator in the district currently and having a child in the district I feel I will have a unique perspective that will allow to assist with making decisions that are best for ALL students.

A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Strongly Disagree

Which of the 11 objectives specified in the Texas Education Code is your highest priority?

I would merge Objectives 4 and 5 together because 5 will not happen without 4. Educators need to use appropriate curriculum in order to prepare our children for post high school life; whether it be college, trade school, military or the work field. If we are as educators are successful with this mission then we will produce the next generation of productive citizens.

What books have had the most profound impact on your view of life?

The Bible and from school To Kill a Mockingbird

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I have a Masters Degree in Education along with 15 years of teaching in public education at a Title 1 campus. I was a campus leader as a Department Chair and sat on numerous campus committees to problem solve issues that our campus faced. In 2019 I chose to leave the classroom for a new challenge in corporate America. I constantly set and meet goals for myself and team. I work well with a team for a common good. I pride myself in being a goal oriented individual and highly motivated.

Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?

Very Conservative

Please defend your answer to the previous question by referencing your publicly available track record.

I am a strong conservative based on my beliefs and voting record.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I spent 15 years of my life pouring into middle schoolers. I feel like I had a small part in raising over 2,000 kids during that time. I connected with so many students over those years and many of them I am still in touch with today. I have been invited to countless weddings, baby showers, birthday parties, graduation parties. It is truly such a joy to watch former students become amazing adults. I am relentless and I will work hard for our community and I will keep our values and trust at the forefront of every decision I make while serving. I am the Conservative Choice for Position 5. I am a Mom in the district, a wife to a district educator, a taxpayer and a former public educator with a common sense approach. I am the BEST choice for Position 5.

2ND AMENDMENT

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.
