OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Disagree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Agree

I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.

No Answer

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Abortion is a deeply personal decision and those choices are to be left between a woman and her doctors. Late term abortions should not be an option except in cases where the mother's life is threatened by the pregnancy. Government has no role in sanctioning nor outlawing abortion. Government should also not fund any abortion procedures in any manner, directly nor indirectly.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

Remove every government department and function that is unconstitutional, unneeded or that is better served or decided by the private sector. Create an environment conducive to job creation by reducing taxes and lifting unnecessary regulations that can increase net tax revenue while also creating more prosperous businesses and workers.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Strongly Disagree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Neutral

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

Yes

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

This phrase defines a foundational freedom to exercise religion as one sees fit without interference from the government in the absence of harm and coercion. It also maintains that the government should not create, require, or prohibit any personal faith.

HEALTHCARE

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

Strongly Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

Unfortunately nothing that the government decides to purchase ever gets cheaper. Governments along with the health insurance companies have monopolized health payments and as an indirect result limited the types of care offered. Additionally these payments are often too small to cover costs creating a great burden on smaller care providers including those in rural areas. We need to consider new ideas such as creating centers for telemedicine, mobile medicine units, allowing registered nurses to write prescriptions, and the elimination of "certificate of need" regulations that prevents small clinic and urgent care centers from opening in rural areas. Reasonable tort reform may also help reduce costs by preventing unwarranted legal actions. And perhaps it is time to also consider private option subsidies for Medicare as an expansion option as it seems to have been successful for Arkansas while also making them eligible for the much higher reimbursement rates from the Federal government.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Neutral

IMMIGRATION

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Strongly Disagree

State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.

Disagree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Any peaceful person should be welcome to immigrate to the US. I have personally stood upon Ellis Island and read the words, "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.," and I agree with them whole-heartedly. The right to seek a better life is not a right exclusive to the geography of your birth and I welcome all that seek refuge and wish to cooperate and do not intend to cause harm. All peaceful humans retain the natural right to freedom of movement and we should strive to make room for new Americans.

EDUCATION

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Disagree

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe in God. I was raised in a Christian household. I believe that faith and spiritualty are deeply personal and subjective. Everyone should have the right to worship as they see fit as long as it does not cause harm to others.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Moderate

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

My policy views are socially liberal and fiscally conservative. This political spectrum needs a second axis, one axis that rates liberal to conservative social/personal views and a second axis that rates economic views.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

Engineering school teaches a little bit of pragmatism along with a healthy dose of creative problem solving. My experience in my career as an educator has been as an innovator developing new programs and curriculum and creating new opportunities for students. Legislation needs a combination of these skills along with the attention to detail that an engineer puts in to every project. I vow to make principled votes that I will always be willing to explain and defend.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

My guiding principle is, "More freedom, less government." I support the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Georgia and the limitations that they impose upon our governments. I will always promote and prioritize the freedom and independence of citizens and I will resist government interference in personal affairs where harm and coercion do not exist.

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.

Strongly Disagree

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.

Strongly Disagree

2ND AMENDMENT

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

Yes

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

If you have not been convicted of a violent crime nor have you been medically determined to be mentally ill then your natural right to self-defense should not be infringed. The gun cannot be un-invented unfortunately and it is morally unjust to deny an individual access to the same types of weapons that may be used against them.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Neutral

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Strongly Agree

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Strongly Disagree

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?

Reduce ballot access restrictions for more freedom and choice in elections, eliminate civil asset forfeiture in the absence of due process, eliminate the state income tax.

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Data supports that systemic racism exists and the victims of this irrational and repugnant behavior are justifiably angry because their governments have played a role in their oppression through the cruelty of the justice system and unjust economic regulations like licensing laws that have been used to target minority entrepreneurs, such as hair braiding license requirements. Small, non-violent offenses, such as a simple, busted tail light, have been used punitively and disproportionately in lower income areas to create a cascade effect where one may lose a license due to being unable to pay the citation. Then the person must choose between not going to work or driving anyhow. Which then becomes driving on a suspended license and now we are all paying for someone to sit in a cell rather than working to better their position. These are the kinds of negative government-citizen interactions that we need to reform. Violent criminals belong in jail, poor people do not.
