Fortunately, a decade of responsible budgeting by Wisconsin Republicans (in which I've personally played a small role) has led not only to a balanced state budget but also several years of surpluses that have enabled additional tax cuts. I support continued wise, responsible investments in priorities such as education and transportation without growing government or adding new classes of people to welfare.

America was founded by people who wanted first and foremost to freely worship God without government interference or persecution. The First Amendment was intended not to separate all things religious from all things political; rather, it was intended to ensure that religion and religious people and their values would NOT be excluded by Congress from the public sphere. Our republic is well served when principled men and women, informed by religious faith, are chosen by their communities to govern.

I also have a strong record as a leader in my church and in city government.

There is more we can do to protect the unborn, disincentivize abortion and make it easier to choose life. We still have some policies (particularly in the tax code) that make it harder for couples to choose to marry or that effectively penalize couples who are married. And, over the past year, many families have suffered setbacks, some families have become newly dependent on government welfare; and we need to help them regain the dignity of independence.

Reducing people - individuals who are capable of making good or bad choices, who have strengths and weaknesses - to the color of their skin is inconsistent with the core American belief that every person is equally valuable and equally protected under law.
