QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Very limited. Only in circumstances during the early stages of pregnancy for rape/incest or when the life of the mother is in jeopardy.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Strongly Disagree

ECONOMY

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

Utah's current tax system is the best in the nation as ranked by the ALEC-Laffer report. The main challenge is resolving the revenue imbalance between income and sales tax while ensuring sustainable funding for education and essential services. Move to broaden the tax base, focusing more on user fees while reducing the rate.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

Reduce certain corporate incentives on the Wasatch Front since our challenge now is to provide enough workers, not additional jobs. Also, areas where general tax revenues are used to benefit a small percentage of the population and replace those with user fees and other strategies. Utah is currently best in the nation for opportunities for upward mobility and has the lowest income disparity so we should expand the policies that incentivize upward mobility, education and work opportunities.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Disagree

We shouldn't expand free public education past K-12.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

I can't think of any.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

Medicaid and Medicare costs are out of control and need to be constrained. People with low incomes should have basic access to healthcare but Utah taxpayers shouldn't be penalized for a broken federal system. So C with improvements.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

In schools we should continue to only require those that have full authorization like we currently do with mumps, measles etc. and also continue to allow for exemptions. Governments should not require them in order to receive services or participate in public activities. Employers should only be able to require them for specific employees who are working in hazardous environments where they would be exposed to diseases (e.g. tetanus) or who work in healthcare settings.

NATIONAL SECURITY

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

The Federal Government should continue to monitor threats from terrorist groups and take steps to prevent attacks from both foreign and domestic actors regardless of ideology.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Neutral

This is not a state of Utah issue.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Agree

We should do more to deter illegal immigration and increase access for legal immigration. Illegal immigration will be reduced if there are more options for legal immigration also reducing crime and improving security.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

We should allow foreign students graduating from US universities the opportunity to stay and work in the US rather than having their education benefit another country. We should also allow for more worker visas especially in trades where there is a worker shortage. We should also continue to welcome refugees and asylum seekers. All of these groups should be thoroughly vetted to make sure there are no security threats.

EDUCATION

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Agree

I support fully funding the public education system, including charter schools. We should also explore ways to support those who choose to home school or provide some credits to private schools if proper parameters are agreed upon.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Agree

I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.

Disagree

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition

Neutral

No government has the authority to dictate religious unions. For civil unions the law should not be expanded to allow for additional unions beyond that what is currently established.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I hold strong religious beliefs and am active in my church.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

When voting in-person a photo ID should be required.

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

Elections in Utah are fair but we should continue to look for improvements.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

I hope racial violence continues to decline. We should always seek for peaceful and non-violent solutions to any differences. There should be equality of opportunities without forcing equal outcomes.

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

Stricter regulation that costs jobs is not the answer. We should focus on market based solutions to reduce emissions and provide for stable, low cost energy.

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.

Agree

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

To provide for basic security, common-sense laws and freedom to worship and raise a family according to the framework in our US and State Constitutions.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

I recently received awards from Americans for Prosperity as a Champion of Liberty and Champion of Economic Freedom. I also was awarded a Friend of the Taxpayer award from the Utah Taxpayers Association. I've also been named a Business Champion four years in a row.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

I work collaboratively with my fellow Republican colleagues on common-sense solutions based on conservative principles. The positive results for residents of Utah is evident as we are the best managed state with the highest quality of life. We're the best state to live, work and recreate and I will continue to work to keep it that way.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Strongly Agree

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Strongly Disagree

Any increase in funding for mental health or other programs should not take away from law enforcement funding.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I voted for Utah's constitutional carry law.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.

Strongly Disagree
