QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

Taxpayer funds should not be used to support abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, whether directly or indirectly through programs like Title X. Public funding should not subsidize practices that many Americans find morally objectionable, and resources should instead be directed toward services that support life, health, and families without involvement in abortion.

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

Exceptions include: 1) rape, 2) incest, 3) life/health of the mother, 4) fatal health abnormality in the unborn child. The following are not abortions by definition in Utah: natural miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, IVF disposal

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Strongly Agree

Utah defines conception as the moment the fertilized egg is implanted into the uterine wall. Other than the exceptions listed above, we must value and protect human live, including unborn human life. The issue is not whether the unborn child is viable, rather, the issue is whether the unborn child is valuable--and each one is.

The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.

Neutral

This is a complex issue involving both the value of human life and the real challenges of infertility. Many believe embryos deserve protection, while others face difficult decisions in building a family. These situations require compassion and respect for differing views. Ultimately, such deeply personal decisions should be left to families.

The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.

Strongly Agree

The Comstock Act should be enforced to uphold federal law and prevent circumvention of state authority. Shipping abortion-inducing drugs across state lines erodes each state’s ability to set and enforce its own policies, undermining federalism and the will of voters.

ECONOMY

What is your position on the minimum wage?

It is unneeded. Minimum wage laws are unnecessary because wages are best determined by the free market, where supply, demand, and productivity set fair compensation. Artificial wage floors often price out low-skill workers, reducing job opportunities

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

Free enterprise and private property are the foundation of prosperity because they reward innovation, hard work, and personal responsibility. When individuals are free to own, build, and invest, they create opportunities not just for themselves, but for entire communities. History shows that societies that protect these rights produce more growth, more freedom, and a higher standard of living for everyone.

List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.

First, enforce audits and transparency across all agencies to expose and eliminate waste. Second, limit spending growth to inflation and population to force discipline. Third, require sunset reviews to end unnecessary programs. Fourth, eliminate corporate welfare. Fifth, reduce bureaucracy by consolidating duplicative functions and empowering local control.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

Separation of church and state means government must protect the free exercise of faith while not controlling or establishing a single religion. It prevents government from imposing beliefs, but does not remove religion from public life. It ensures individuals are free to live out their faith without government interference.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

If it is reasonably possible to accomodate a moral and/or religious belief, it should be done. Individuals and businesses should not be forced by government to violate their moral or religious beliefs, as doing so undermines the very liberty our system is meant to protect. A free society depends on respecting conscience and allowing diverse viewpoints to coexist. Compelling speech or action erodes both religious freedom and the principle of limited government.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

I’m open to supporting options like (C) or (D), but any proposal must be clearly defined and fairly implemented. Before eliminating Medicare or Medicaid, I would need to see a detailed plan that ensures vulnerable populations are protected and that the transition is responsible, sustainable, and equitable. We would also need to make sure that those that paid into these plans are treated fairly after a lifetime of such payments (i.e. receive the benefit they paid for).

The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.

Disagree

Government may analyze the economic impact of illness, but it must be done with strict safeguards. Any database should use fully de-identified, aggregated data that protects individual privacy and prevents misuse. Protecting personal health information is essential, and no system should allow tracking or targeting of specific individuals.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

The Chinese Communist Party presents serious threats across military, cybersecurity, intellectual property, and global economic fronts. Its actions undermine fair trade, national security, and democratic values. The United States must protect critical infrastructure, secure supply chains, defend innovation, and stand firmly for freedom at home and abroad. I have received threats from the Chinese for pushing back on Chinese Communist Party's aggression in my legislation.

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

The United States’ relationship with Israel is vital to our national security and shared values. Israel is a key ally in a volatile region, providing strategic, intelligence, and military partnership. Beyond that, our nations are bound by a commitment to democracy, freedom, and the rule of law. Maintaining and strengthening this relationship promotes stability and advances American interests abroad.

IMMIGRATION

I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.

Strongly Disagree

Sanctuary city policies undermine the rule of law and create confusion between federal and local enforcement responsibilities. They can limit cooperation with federal authorities, making communities less safe and weakening immigration enforcement. We should pursue policies that are both humane and lawful, ensuring public safety while upholding a clear and consistent legal framework.

EDUCATION

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Strongly Agree

Education is not an enumerated power in the Constitution, and authority should return to states and local communities. Local control allows parents, teachers, and school boards to make decisions that best fit their students. Eliminating the U.S. Department of Education would reduce federal overreach and restore accountability where it belongs—closer to the people. Special care must be taken in any elimination to ensure funding for special education is held harmless.

Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.

Strongly Agree

Foreign governments should not be funding American education, as it risks undue influence over curriculum, research, and policy. Our schools and universities should reflect American values and priorities, not those of foreign actors. Prohibiting such funding protects national security, academic integrity, and the independence of our educational institutions.

VALUES

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Strongly Agree

Parents have a fundamental right and responsibility to direct their child’s health and education. Government should support—not override—those decisions, ensuring families remain the primary influence in a child’s development. Policies should empower parents with choice, transparency, and authority, while respecting their role in guiding their children’s well-being and future.

Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.

Strongly Agree

Even when well-intentioned, attempts to physically or socially transition a child are premature and risk long-term, irreversible harm without the maturity or capacity for true informed consent. Children deserve care, compassion, and protection—not life-altering decisions they may not fully understand. Safeguarding their well-being means allowing them time to develop before making permanent choices.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Agree

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman, and government does not have authority to redefine that institution. While government may recognize same-sex unions for purposes of legal rights, that does not change the historic meaning of marriage across human history. At the same time, this does not justify discrimination—every individual should be treated with dignity and respect under the law.

I support the expansion of gambling in my state.

Strongly Disagree

The expansion of gambling is not only bad policy—it is unconstitutional in Utah under Article VI. I have consistently opposed its expansion, including passing legislation in 2026 to ban predictive market gambling like Kalshi. Gambling harms families and communities, and our laws should continue to reflect Utah’s commitment to stability, responsibility, and the public good.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a practicing member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My faith centers on Jesus Christ, personal responsibility, family, service, and moral accountability. I believe in living with integrity, honoring covenants, and serving others. These values guide my decisions, emphasizing faith, strong families, and a commitment to building communities grounded in principle and compassion.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

Requiring photo identification to vote is a basic, common-sense safeguard that protects election integrity and public confidence. We require ID for many everyday activities, and voting—one of our most important civic duties—should be no different. Ensuring voters are properly identified helps prevent fraud and preserves the legitimacy of our elections.

EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

Government policy should treat individuals equally under the law, not assign benefits or penalties based on race. Reparations based on race divide rather than unite and move us away from the principle of equal protection. We should focus on policies that expand opportunity, strengthen families, and lift all Americans without regard to race.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Agree

Biological differences matter, especially in sports and private, sex-designated spaces. I have passed legislation ensuring that intimate spaces—like bathrooms and shared living situations—are designated by biological sex to protect safety and fairness. At the same time, we can and should treat every individual with compassion and dignity, even as we maintain clear, commonsense boundaries.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Disagree

While environmental stewardship matters, alarmist claims about man-made climate change often drive policies that expand government control without clear, measurable benefits. We should focus on practical, science-based solutions that balance economic growth, energy independence, and environmental protection—rather than sweeping mandates that harm families and businesses.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

Coal and natural gas are the most reliable energy sources today, providing consistent power. In the future, nuclear and geothermal show strong potential. We need a balanced approach focused on reliability, affordability, and energy independence.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

I would describe myself as conservative—grounded in principle and committed to the core functions of government working effectively. I believe in limited government, individual liberty, and strong families, but also that government must be accountable, transparent, and capable in carrying out its essential responsibilities well.

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?

The goal of the criminal justice system is to uphold the rule of law by ensuring swift, certain, and proportionate punishment, protecting victims, and deterring crime. It should also promote accountability and, where appropriate, rehabilitation so individuals can return as productive members of society, while always prioritizing public safety and respect for the law.

Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.

Strongly Agree

Government has a clear responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation online and to ensure laws keep pace with evolving technology. I have passed legislation in this area that has contributed to the fastest increase in prosecutions of these crimes in Utah’s history. Protecting children and holding offenders accountable must remain a top priority.

Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.

Strongly Agree

The United States is governed by the Constitution, and no religious legal system—including Sharia law—should be incorporated into our civil legal framework. The Establishment Clause prohibits the government from adopting or enforcing any religious doctrine as law. Our system must remain grounded in neutral, constitutional principles that apply equally to all citizens, regardless of faith.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I support the 2nd Amendment. Restrictions may be appropriate in cases of domestic abuse or mental health adjudications, with strong due process protections. Law-abiding citizens’ rights must be preserved, while ensuring dangerous individuals are prevented from accessing firearms.
