QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Disagree

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Agree

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Agree

School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Agree

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Agree

School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.

Disagree

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

Government Funding for college specifically removes the commitment a student makes with themselves and the college. A great example is what is happening in Scotland where publicly funded colleges are available and the level of credentials a student obtains are slowly becoming worse in the marketplace than the colleges that require student funds. The consequence of this is that more people will then attempt to find a private institution to better equip them for the marketplace and demand for that will start to limit everyones ability to gain a marketable degree if a large scale public free college exists.

EDUCATION

What is the function of the local school board?

To oversee the decisions made by the district administration, Recommend and provide curriculum updates, hire and work closely with the Superintendent and be a voice for the community and taxpayer ensuring that our students have every opportunity to succeed.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

The board and subsequent committees assigned by the board review and evaluate curriculum. As the board is an extension of the community, that input is taken into consideration as well.

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

Never. Unless they violate a law by threatening or affecting the safety of others. But even in those situations the enforcement of that is upon the police and county.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Schools should be focused on core competencies and extend to cte programs that bring benefits to the student and the community as a whole.

Which more closely matches your view of America's founding principles? A) Liberty and equality. B) Slavery and racism.

Liberty and equality.

What does "equity in education" mean to you?

Equity as a defined word has been misused and is trying to replace equality. I would rather see the statement “equality in education” that allows everyone the same opportunities to gain as much out of their education equally.

Written parental consent (opt-in) must be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

Agree

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Agree

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Agree

School boards are accountable to parents and taxpayers.

Agree

Do you believe students should have access to materials that graphically depict and describe sexual acts?

No

All print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review.

Agree

2ND AMENDMENT

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.

Agree

But I would require that teacher to go through the same level of training that our SRO's go through to be able to conceal carry. As a LTC licensed holder myself I expect people to be trained in the use of their firearm and understand the expectations and consequences of the decisions that they may have to act on.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?

Historically the MMR vaccine has been proven valuable and has not changed since its introduction in the late 60's although i would not require it i do recommend it. On the other hand the more recent covid vaccine has not gone through the same rigorous trials or tenure and i widely oppose it as a recommendation or requirement for school aged children.

I support mask mandates.

Strongly Disagree

All official open meetings should be live streamed, recorded, and have transcripts available online for public access.

Strongly Agree

All votes should be roll call votes and recorded in meeting minutes.

Strongly Agree

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

A candidate's personal moral values are relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Strongly Agree

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

As a recent dripping springs resident I have worked to integrate as much of my time into helping out at our local school whether that is through the Tiger dads or supporting different activities such as field days and GT class guest teaching. I continue to volunteer where needed throughout each school year. Our family loves this area and are here specifically for the benefits of this school district. We constantly strive to improve and make Dripping Springs the best place for our kids to grow up. I volunteer my time with my son’s basketball team and am a full-time scout leader for Pack 4 and Troop 4. My wife, Lila, and I and our two sons, Shawn (12) and Blake, (10) live in Driftwood, TX. Shawn currently attends Sycamore Springs middle school and Blake is currently enrolled in Cypress Springs Elementary. We have lived in the Dripping Springs area for just over 4 years and moved from the Sacramento area where we have lived most of our lives. We moved out here after recognizing that both our success and our children’s success greatly depended on the thriving school districts such as Dripping Springs. In our previous location, we personally experienced the failures and hardships that were created by certain overreaching school and governmental policies and don’t want to see that happen here. We were heavily impacted by those policies and witnessed how those changes impacted our children’s educational and personal growth. As a potential Board of Trustees, I hope to help identify those issues before they can become a burden to our students and taxpayers. Watching and advising throughout the past 3 years with the DSISD board meetings, I’ve come to realize the potential I can bring to the board with my analytical mind and my past experiences. I bring a unique perspective to the table with both a business point of view and the father of two boys currently in the district. I am ready to stand up and ask the tough questions. As well to offer up my ideas and designs to help create better outcomes within this district. Throughout my life, I have followed a high set of moral values given to me by my family upbringing, my religion and my scouting experiences. I continue today to adhere to those values and work diligently to ensure all my decisions reflect that. I work diligently to have all the information necessary to make the right decision for a particular problem. Of equal importance is being able to quickly adjust when a situation warrants a change. I believe that no one is perfect and the best of us truly comes out when we have to adjust a solution we thought we got right. It is also critical to own up to a mistake we made and start working to make it right. I work well under pressure and am very skilled in researching and building solutions for problems. I follow through with those solutions and determine both the outcomes and the consequences of a problem while keeping the ability to react quickly when those solutions need to change. I believe that this type of analysis is what is missing from our board. Our community needs someone like myself on the DSISD board to provide that detailed insight and input to each of our school district’s challenges.

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I was brought up Christian and am a strong believer in "In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you"

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Agree

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

That is a parent choice and to be determined by their beliefs. Currently we teach in middle school sexual education but focus on very limited topics. As a child matures there are additional topics that can be discussed but only at the approval of the parent.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

The parent should have the right to determine what is being taught. Sex ed should be personalized by the parent so they have full control over what is taught to their child and at what age.

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Agree
