EDUCATION

What is the function of the local school board?

The local school board articulates a clear vision for the district, maintains governance standards, appoints and manages leadership in the superintendent, and orchestrates the policies and guiding principles leading the district, including health and safety protocols, curriculum decisions, and budget allocations. The school board has the unique function of serving as liaison between the community and the district, upholding the needs and concerns of both schools and community, and advocating for the greatest benefit of the children.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

Parents and constituents ultimately have authority to set curriculum. The school board should represent a voice for those voters.

Please rate in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Language Arts, American History, Mathematics, Science, Physical Fitness, Art & Music, Information Technology, Personal Finances, Vocational Learning, Social Emotional Learning, Foreign Language

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Disagree

Our state should participate in the nationwide Common Core standards for high-school graduation.

Disagree

Schools should use Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum and resources to teach emotions, values, and relationships.

Neutral

I support the teaching of the 1619 Project emphasizing slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.

Strongly Disagree

When students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.

Agree

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

Parents should be the sole authority of sexual education to children. Public education can provide a foundation of sexual education to supplement what has been taught in the home or to provoke further conversations in the home. Middle school is appropriate age when it should be taught.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

Physical and emotional health outcomes, consent; abstinence; human anatomy/ the reproductive system, stages of pregnancy and fetal development. Further breadth of sexual education should be at discretion of parents.

VALUES

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student. All issues on this subject should be referred to the parents of the student.

Strongly Agree

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Agree

Teachers should not use alternative names and pronouns without parental permission.

Strongly Agree

Therapy for children who have unwanted same-sex attraction should be banned.

No Answer

I support allowing students to use public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms, and to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a non-denominational, Bible believing Christian who has been saved by grace through my faith in Jesus Christ.

ABOUT YOU

Why are you running for this office?

I'm running for DSISD school board to offer a much-needed expertise in medical, mental health and public health to our schools, as our schools continue to intersect significantly with decisions affecting our children's mental health and emotional development. Moreover, I hope to bring my business experience to the district to bring more fiscal transparency and accountability through a rapid expansion.

A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Disagree

Which of the 11 objectives specified in the Texas Education Code is your highest priority?

What books have had the most profound impact on your view of life?

The Bible is what most informs my view of life and my daily actions. Frankly, nothing else compares to the breadth and depth of knowledge, encouragement, inspiration and revelation found in the Word of God.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

As a medical doctor, board certified psychiatrist, public health expert, small business owner and mother of 3 young children, I have a unique blend of medical, mental health, parental and business experience that will strongly benefit the school district in a moment in time when mental health and public health concerns in schools are at an all time high. Given that our current board does not include a medical doctor, a mental health professional or a public health professional, my expertise wo

Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?

No

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I'm a mother of 3 young children and military wife who is passionate about doing what is best for our kids while maintaining excellence in education. The decisions I make affect my own children's lives; I am committed to seeing my children and all children not just survive, but thrive.

2ND AMENDMENT

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Do you support mandatory vaccinations for children attending public school?

No, vaccinations should always be a personal and private decision between a child, child's parents and child's doctor with full informed consent and should not go against an individual's religion, personal beliefs or conscience.
