Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?
The authority to set curriculum should be a joint effort with stakeholders. In order to have an effective curriculum, teachers should be involved in the development process. An effective curriculum should be to meet the needs and current demands of the culture, the society, and the expectation of the population being served. Curriculum development is a challenge, whereby the involvement of all stakeholders, especially those who are directly involved in our children’s instruction are a necessary pieces in curriculum development and revision. The resources used in these curriculum should be a joint effort as well.

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?
In a perfect and ideal world, parents should teach sexual education to their children. But, we are not living in a utopia. Sadly, sex trafficking of our children has reached epic portions, not to mention the home grown predators. With the advancement of technology, children are becoming exposed at young ages. We have to make sure our children are educated and safe. And as tough as it may be for some, our current times call for having these discussions with our children younger than preteen.
If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex
There is nothing easy and simple about teaching children about sex. The ideal situation is that our children will get all of the information they need at home from the parents, with schools supplementing that information. When it is not ideal, by providing adolescents with risks of different types of sexual behavior, they will be educated to know when someone is violating them and the procedures in which to report such acts/behavior. From sex trafficking to social media, our children need to know what sex is and to be able to spot predators and predatory behavior when parents are not around. The fact of the matter is we love our children and with all that love we are not with them 24/7. Therefore, we need to arm them with knowledge that will enable our children to stay safe.
