Key votes from Vote Smart

“This candidate voted against HR 8404.  This vote indicates the candidate holds a position that supports traditional marriage.”

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

I'm unabashedly pro-life and I believe that every soul is precious in the sight of God. That's why I'm strongly opposed to using any federal funds to pay for abortions. On the House Appropriations Committee, I've fought to keep the Hyde Amendment in place and worked to keep these longstanding pro-life protections in place.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Strongly Disagree

Again, I believe that every soul is precious in the sight of God. I'm firmly pro-life and believe that a life should never be ended prematurely, wether they be a child in the womb or an elderly adult.

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Did not answer

ECONOMY

Redistribution of income is needed to lessen the gap between the wealthy and working classes.

Strongly Disagree

The United States was founded as a capitalist nation. Under no circumstances should the federal government be involved in wealth redistribution or engaging in anything even resembling socialism.

The government should cut spending in order to reduce the national debt.

Strongly Agree

The massive size of the national debt shows that we're mortgaging the future of our children and grandchildren to pay for political priorities today. I firmly believe that we need to reign in government spending, restrain the growth of government, and be responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

I believe that we need to focus on simplifying the tax code and providing real relief to taxpayers that will put more dollars back in their pockets.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

The Constitution is clear on this issue. Every American has the right to practice their religious beliefs as they see fit. It is unconscionable for the federal government to force mandates on citizens that will violate their beliefs. In Congress, I've always fought to protect religious freedom and I will continue to do so for as long as I am in office.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

Again, I believe that the Constitution is clear on this. Under no circumstances should any American be forced to violate their moral or religious beliefs.

What should be the relationship between the church and the state?

Did not answer

HEALTHCARE

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

I believe that any vaccine mandates are illegal and unconstitutional. In Congress, I've co-sponsored legislation that will roll back the Biden Administration's mandates and will continue to fight to repeal these unlawful directives.

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

C.)

NATIONAL SECURITY

With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.

C.) I believe that when our nation considers offering any aid to foreign nations or intervening militarily, our focus has to be on protecting American lives and resources.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Strongly Disagree

I'm an unapologetic supporter of Israel. They are the only democracy in the Middle East and I believe that it is essential for the United States to support whatever measures Israel feels is necessary to protect their citizens' freedom and liberty. In my first term in Congress, I personally visited Israel and met with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss maintaining the strong bond between our nations.

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

We should continue our missions to take out top terrorist leaders and refuse to negotiate with Iran for as long as they continue to support radical extremism.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

I've personally visited the southern border and seen the national security disaster and humanitarian crisis there firsthand. I'm committed to doing everything possible to secure the border. That's why I fought in the House Appropriations Committee to protect funding for construction of the border wall and voted to support a $500 million budget increase for the Border Patrol.

State and federal funds shall be denied to any public or private entity, such as a sanctuary city, that is not in compliance with immigration laws.

Agree

No entity should be allowed to pick and choose which laws they choose to follow.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

The U.S. already has processes in place to allow immigrants to come to the U.S. legally.

VALUES

Sexual orientation and gender identity should be protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Disagree

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

Did not answer

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

My view on this is simple. If you have to show your ID to rent a car, then you should have to show your ID to vote.

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

States should be able to run and regulate their voting practices.

EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

No. I will not deny that discrimination on the basis of race continues to be a problem for our country, but I believe this to be a moral issue, rather than a security issue.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.

Agree

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

A.) I'm a firm believer in unleashing the power of our domestic energy to keep hardworking Americans from paying outrageous prices at the pump.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

Did not answer

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No.

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

Did not answer

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Agree

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Disagree

I disagree with defunding our police. I am in favor of supporting ways to help fund mental health and community programs.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I believe that the Second Amendment is clear on this issue. Every law-abiding American has the right to own firearms.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.

Strongly Disagree
