QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Disagree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Disagree

I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.

Neutral

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Did not answer

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Neutral

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Agree

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

I feel that all spending areas will need serious evaluation to root out waste and provide their rationale for increased funding.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Disagree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Disagree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Disagree

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

Yes

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

The government creates laws that are morally correct and provides a mechanism for enforcement to ensures the safety of all citizens.

HEALTHCARE

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

Agree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

Medicaid expansion is the first and best step for covering nearly a quarter of a million Missourians in need of health care. The Affordable Care Act should be allowed to function properly to bring healthcare costs to a manageable level. We are all paying for emergency room visits made by people who otherwise cannot see a healthcare provider on a regular basis due to lack of insurance. Women's healthcare is an essential need that would reduce need for abortion surgeries, miscarriages, and unintended pregnancies. These issues cannot be ignored or drowned out by protesters and must be adressed in a realistic, practical way.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Agree

IMMIGRATION

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Strongly Disagree

State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.

Disagree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Any individual or family seeking refuge for tyranny. Anyone who wants opportunity to grow and improve themselves. The vast majority of the kids in cages at the southern border have committed no crime unless seeking freedom is considered to be one. We can do better than this as the leader of the free world. Immigration should be a process that respects the individual, offers an opportunity to assimilate into the population, and become a productive member of the society we live in.

EDUCATION

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Agree

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Neutral

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Agree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Moderate

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

Did not answer

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I am a 35-year public school teacher in rural Missouri, and have lived and worked in communities with a wide range of economic conditions and disparities. I have a particular interest in education policy regarding curriculum and evaluation of students in developing an effective K-12 program. I have been an officer and trustee in several county healthcare organizations, gaining a broader understanding of healthcare management and government interaction with rural hospitals. My experiences as a member of Lions International and the Stockton Community Foundation have provided opportunities to work in community betterment projects, bringing together people in need with appropriate providers and funding needed to achieve their goals.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I have attempted to deal with social issues in my community in a practical, fair way. I wish to serve my district and state as a legislator who looks at issues from all points of view and attempts to find a solution that is of benefit to the greatest number of people, and does not create harm. John Wesley's tenets of "Think and let think" and "Do no harm" serve as my compass.

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.

Disagree

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.

Disagree

2ND AMENDMENT

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

No

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Gun ownership should involve background checks, registration, and limitations on firepower/capacity.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Agree

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Agree

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Disagree

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?

Medicaid expansion funding, fully funding of school Foundation formula, and fuel tax proposals for infrastructure improvements.

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Yes. Longtime denials of mortgages and home sales to minority families have continued to foster a segregated population, racial profiling has contributed to distrust of urban law enforcement, and encouragement of historically racist organizations by national leadership have created a divisive and destructive national discourse. All of these must stop if we are to be a country that embraces diversity, accepts the stranger in our midst, and allows our country to absorb a wide variety of cultures, as we were designed to do.
