Social Security is the foundation of economic security for millions of Americans—retirees, disabled persons, and families of retired, disabled or deceased workers. I would: Maintain social security as is a separate, self-funded program, Eliminate the social security cap, and Return social security to a pay-as-you-go program, ending 'pre-funding', which has been a fraud used to fund the government.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
I am a prudent and thrifty person by nature, always and would be if elected. I would eliminate everything not paid for each year. Budget deficits are caused by spending that exceeds revenue or so-called tax cuts (actually tax deferments), loans must be taken out to pay for the excess spending. As discussed above the following needs to be done: Pass a Balanced Budget Amendment, Reform Government to save money, and Rewrite the Tax Code to make it fair (billionaires pay a FAIR SHARE).
Under what circumstances should taxpayers help pay off existing student loans?
Almost never. But the program should be reformed to ensure students have a reasonable possibility of repaying the loans with future earned income. And the U.S. might consider a program to allow former students to refinance high interest student loans to lower payments going forward.

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
The First Amendment ensures that the government does not show preference to a certain religion AND does not take away an individual’s ability to exercise religion. In an 1802 letter, members of the Danbury, CT Baptist Association were worried about the freedom to practice their faith, writing to Thomas Jefferson. He wrote back that religious liberty, free from state tampering, would be a key part of the American vision. The Constitution, he wrote, would “restore to man all his natural rights.” Jefferson was not suggesting that religion should be exiled from public debate. He was responding to a religious people worried for their rights. He attended church services during his administration inside the United States Capitol. In its day, a constitutional prohibition that the state would not establish or restrain personal faith was truly revolutionary. Sadly even today religious freedom is still revolutionary. America has an obligation to promote this important human right.

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I support the Republican healthcare plan. A ‘mainstay of Republican healthcare reform for decades has been to support an integration of our tax and spending to discourage uninsurance, public insurance, and charity care rather than private insurance; and make sure everyone has private health insurance, regardless of how it is obtained – at work, in the marketplace or in an exchange.’ Sound familiar? For those who don't know Obamacare is in large part the Republican healthcare plan. However, if Republicans can not support their own plan, then a government-run, single-payer plan would be the next best option. And don’t hold your breath, the Republicans have no other plan. Nixon was the last Republican politician to propose comprehensive health insurance reform. That was in 1974, nearly 50 years ago.

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
The threat to liberty & freedom is ANY radical movement that espouses violence, which is unconstitutional. The U.S. has a very effective counter-terrorism strategy and operational capability, and it has improved through lessons learned and continues to do so. An element of strategy, which I support, is targeted strikes according to guidelines and rules of engagement. But singling out and focusing on any religion is un-American and unconstitutional.

The U.S. needs a rational immigration program, but first: A federal law should be passed holding all employers (like Trump who hired them) strictly liable for the employment of undocumented immigrant. This would end new undocumented immigration. Then there should be a CIVIL and HUMANE discussion and debate about undocumented immigrants. I favor: Continuing the DACA program to allow some individuals brought to the country as children to remain here and work when those individuals do not have serious criminal records. DACA individuals should have a chance at citizenship. A process to review and document other undocumented immigrants, subject to restrictions and limitations to be determined. Undocumented immigrants who serve/have served in the military or other essential services would be eligible for accelerated citizenship.

No, and I've never been arrested for any crime. All I can recall was a speeding ticket when I was 16, a couple of parking tickets (one of which was dismissed) and a boating violation ticket when I was rowing my scull (also dismissed, I was not in violation of Coast Guard regulations).
