OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Agree

The Ten Commandments should not be displayed in public school buildings or court houses.

Disagree

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

The Establishment clause of First Amendment has not been clearly authored in court decisions. I feel that is because the spirit of the First Amendment is not to infringe upon someone's religious freedoms. I believe that an individuals religious freedoms should be protected.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

George Washington's comment that “Religion and morality are the essential pillars of civil society” is still true today.

Agree

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

That our Country be founded upon a foundation of freedoms and liberties that should be for the people and by the people. This creation would prevent the tyranny of oppressive kings and rulers to allow the people to participate in the governing of themselves with smaller government intervention.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a proud Christian who believes that your faithfulness to the word of God brings more blessings into your life. I pray daily that the will of God be done and that he guides my path. I will never forsake my faith or my spiritual well-being while staying dedicated to God, Country, and family!

In light of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Obergefell v. Hodges allowing members of the same sex to marry, which justice’s opinion in that case most closely approximates your understanding of marriage?

Justice Roberts

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I clerked for the Court of Appeals in the summer of 2004. I worked as a Prosecutor in the Durham County DA’s Office as well as the Brunswick, Bladen, & Columbus County DA’s Office. While in the DA’s Office, I tried every type of case to include first degree murder. In 2014, I was elected to my first term as District Court Judge. I still serve in all three counties of my district as a Certified Juvenile Court Judge. Families and children are our greatest resource and I work very hard every day to preserve those resources and keep our children safe!

In what areas of law have you practiced?

Civil and Criminal. I am also a Certified Juvenile Court Judge.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

Never.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

Through hard work and dedication, I have served our country and state for more than a combined 30 years. While being a Judge, I also serve as a Major in the Army Reserve JAG Corp with two previous combat tours (No DOD Endorsement). The citizens deserve a Judge with a proven resume of service. I have fought for our Country abroad to uphold our Constitution and protect the freedoms that are afforded by it. Once elected to Seat 5 on the Court of Appeals, I will follow the Constitution and never create the law. As a Judge, I serve justice fairly and impartial, consistent with the Constitution. I humbly ask for your prayers, support, & vote in the coming election! www.judgefredgore.com

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

The U.S. Constitution and my state constitution should be interpreted as living documents, rather than using a strict constructionist or originalist approach in judicial decisions.

Disagree

There are times when American judges should alter U.S. case law in order to comply with foreign case law.

Strongly Disagree

I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.

Strongly Disagree

There should be more than nine justices on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Strongly Disagree

Which current U.S. Supreme Court justice best reflects your judicial philosophy?

Justice Thomas

Which U.S. president serving after 1960 best reflects your political philosophy?

President Ronald Reagan

What is the proper use of legislative history in interpreting statutory law?

Only for the limited purpose of identifying the intent of the drafters if it is unclear in the form of the legislation.

What specific text in the Declaration of Independence provides the critical basis for individual rights and the form of government guaranteed in the United States Constitution?

I believe the rights listed of "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness," are guaranteed by the civic duty and responsibility left to us by the Founders. They stated: "it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security." Therefore, it is the responsibility of all citizens to participate in government and elect Judges that will follow the Constitution and protect the liberties guaranteed to all citizens.
