As a judge I took an oath to protect and defend the N.C. Constitution not inconsistent with the US Constitution. I committed to reviewing cases based on the rule of law, precedent and justice. No answer given should give any inference at all of any way I would rule on any case that comes before me.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

As a candidate for Judge I am required to hold a law license. I received my law degree in May 2006 and my law license after passing the bar in July 2006. My legal positions include service as an Assistant District Attorney, Assistant Attorney General, District Court Judge and Superior Court Judge. I have practiced criminal and civil law as a prosecutor and as a defense attorney. I am well experienced in arguing cases on the appellate level to the N.C. Court of Appeals. I have served in every trial court on the District and Superior Court levels. I have been appointed by the N.C. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to preside over specialty cases that deal with complex legal issues where millions of dollars are at stake and cases dealing with constitutional issues. I am also appointed by the Chief Justice to serve on the NC Courts Commission. This cumulative experience and background makes well qualified to carry out the duties required by a Judge on the NC Court of Appeals.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I am an independent, fair and impartial judge that understands the legal concepts and issues that will be handled at the Court of Appeals because of my experience. I also understand that lives are connected to each case and I don’t take that lightly. I make rulings and decisions based on the rule of law, facts of the case and justice- only. My personal beliefs do no come into play when I am reviewing cases and nor do other factors including but not limited to race, gender, sexual orientation, party affiliation, or branch of government that one may serve in. The N.C. and US Constitutions and protections therein apply to all.
