The Covid19 virus has created an estimated $1.3 billion revenue shortfall for the state of Kansas. The Kansas Constitution prohibits deficit spending. This means the legislature and governor must work out a budget which will require spending cuts. Kansas can delay paying back money the state borrowed from itself in 2017 and reconsider some of the spending increases they approved before the impact of the corona-virus on state revenues was clear.

I have over 24 years of public service experience including service in the United States Army. As an Army civil affairs officer I have worked with 4 different foreign governments and the United States government to help establish democracy, uphold the rule of law, and serve under-governed areas. I helped conduct the first free election in Iraq in 2005 and establish a local democracy. In 2009 I received the United States Department of State Meritorious Award for my public service. I have received numerous other public service awards and recognition.

Now more than ever, we need new leadership in Topeka. My priorities are simple, I will work hard for the people of this district, supporting small businesses and job creation, advancing veterans’ issues and fighting for agriculture. My commitment to service didn’t stop when I left the military. I will work with local employers, the university, technical college, and military base to incentivize business growth in the region. I support higher education and technical education to train a qualified workforce to fill the demand for technical skill in the Manhattan area. I believe our government CAN and MUST do better. I believe in lowering the tax burden for families and businesses and supporting policies that encourage families and businesses to locate and remain in Kansas.
