QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I believe that abortion should be allowed only under very limited and narrow-defined circumstances such as rape, incest and when the life of the mother is at risk during the term of the pregnancy.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
We need to look at eliminating duplicate programs that seek to accomplish the same policy objectives. In addition, we need to ask ourselves if the taxpayers really benefit from the multitude of special offices and commissions that are established by the Legislature. If they don't, such offices should be eliminated. I also believe that State government spends to much on outside consultants and project managers for poorly-defined technology and process improvement initiatives.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
No Answer
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Government should neither favor one religion over another nor should it attempt to restrict or otherwise impede the practice of religion by its citizens. Government should avoid conflict with religious institutions where its intrusion compels a choice between fealty to the state or their God. As an example, the State should not force an artist such as florist, musician, or photographer to participate in a same-sex wedding as has been done in Washington.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I believe the majority of people receive very good healthcare coverage from their employer and are mostly satisfied with this benefit. Future healthcare policy should focus on two issues: 1) enhancing the ability of those not receiving coverage at work to purchase affordable individual health coverage from the private market. In addition, the use of Health Savings Accounts should be encouraged to pay for out-pocket medical costs and improve labor portability. 2) the State must continue to sustain its role as the insurer of last resort and provide an adequate safety net to the indigent, disabled, transitional unemployed and the high risk pool of patients that cannot obtain coverage in the marketplace. In this role, the State should seek to implement policies that encourage personal responsibility which lead to improved medical outcomes and reduced costs to the taxpayer.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
First, immigration should be recognized as an enumerated Federal power which limits the State's ability to influence these policies. In general, the United States should continue to welcome a limited number of legal immigrants that have been vetted, will contribute to our society, and want to become an American citizens. Obviously there will need for other categories of legal entry like business, humanitarian, and other national interests. We should open the door to individuals that will benefit our country and guard against those who seek to come in and do us harm. Government should implement expanded work permits to assist those industries that are seasonal or rely on guest workers and hand out harsh penalties to those businesses that employ undocumented workers.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I was Baptized and Confirmed in the Roman Catholic Church. I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior and try hard to live my life everyday in concert with my Christian faith. Both of my daughters have been Baptized and I continue to raise them as children of God.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
I would refer you to the endorsements of the King County GOP and the Family Policy Institute of Washington as examples of my personal and political values. Both organizations conducted written and oral interviews with me before offering their support to my campaign. My consistent voting record of supporting Republican candidates at the Federal level is also indicative of my support for conservative policies.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I am seeking the office of State Representative because I believe that my experience as a business owner for over 13-years, a husband and father to two daughters, and my volunteer work with youth and chronic illness non-profit groups provide a unique lens to view the challenges that confront my District today and in the future.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I have been married to my current wife for 10 years and we have been blessed with our two daughters. I was married for 9 years to my first wife who passed away at 37 years old from pulmonary complications due to scleroderma. The experience of caring for her and having to make the difficult decision to take her off of a ventilator was guided by my faith in God and reaffirmed my role as His servant on earth. I seek to bring this compassion and humility with me in service to the voters of Washington's 5th Legislative District.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
No Answer
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Owners of a firearm should be required to properly register their gun and pass a background check. This process assists law enforcement in preserving public safety by taking action to confiscate and remove unlicensed firearms from the community. Beyond this general policy we should not attempt to further burden law-abiding gun owners.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Neutral
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1. Curtail the Governor's use of emergency declarations to implement public policy. Any emergency declaration should automatically end in 60-days if the Governor does not receive an extension for a specific period of time from a majority of both Houses of the Legislature. 2. Clarify the circumstances under which the Legislature can utilize an "Emergency" designation to pass laws that cannot then be overturned by a majority of the voters through the Referendum process. 3. Reform specific State licensing requirements to facilitate the entrance of new practitioners, the formation and growth of small business, and enhanced movement of interstate labor. I believe such changes can have oversized impact on low income and other underserved communities.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Those who seek to divide us under the guise of systemic racism are a threat to domestic tranquility in the U.S. Racism still exists and must be called out and eradicated wherever it reveals itself. However, racism is propagated by individuals and we should continue legitimate efforts to ensure that no person is marginalized in our society for race, income, religion, or political view. I am suspicious of any group that uses racism as a sledgehammer to teardown beneficial institutions such as religion, law enforcement, the nuclear family and the capitalist economy that have lifted up so many in the U.S. and around the world.
