QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
No Answer
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Rights are not gifts from government to be allowed. Abortion is an unfortunate conflict between the Right of a Woman to control her body and the Rights of a Child. As American prohibition, the drug war, and drug control show just because something is illegal does not end it, or even guarantee decreasing it. Likewise I believe criminalizing all abortions is an ineffective method at eliminating abortion. As a legislator I will not seek to create statutes in conflict with the U.S. Supreme Court's precedent unless I believe them to be blatantly unconstitutional. I do not support expansion of abortion beyond the current SCOTUS precedent. Also as a legislator I will not vote to approve tax money being spent on personal choices such as Abortion or contraceptive usage.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
All State spending is bloated. I would cut waste before expanding any budget, directly allocating funds as needed to avoid wasteful projects. My biggest target would be Washington State's general fund which is a huge machine of money laundering. Federal Grants go in and go out to support waste and corruption. This money should be directly allocated as much as possible or eliminated to support tax reduction.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
No Answer
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;" - excerpt of the first amendment The U.S. Constitution limits the State, not religion. Having just fought a war against England which had nationalized the Christian religion into the "Church of England". Which then persecuted Catholics, Puritans and other Protestants. Separation of Church and State is meant to keep the State from polluting the Sacred and leave people free to live life according to their conscience rather than immoral state control.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
The effect of government regulation is always to make things more expensive. I believe competition, knowledge and choice bring the greatest reductions in market prices and I would work to remove barriers to healthcare choice, legislate consumers be fully informed of their choices. The same principles also apply to healthcare providers. The primary role of government is to keep the healthcare system free of fraud and to punish malpractice.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Neutral
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Disagree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Disagree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Immigration and free trade are greatly beneficial to the USA. Immigration should be open to everyone who supports our Bill of Rights, but it should especially be open and easily available to persecuted refugees such as religious minorities in the middle east. Unfortunately as State Representative I have no influence over federal immigration policy. The U.S. Constitution authorizes the federal government to control naturalization and to assist the states in border control. As a State legislator I support the State taking control of its border and ending U.S. citizens being harassed by warrant-less checkpoints 100 miles inland from the border. Using constitutional state authority I would end the policy of ICE separating families with children at the border. Families should remain together until our Courts decide their immigration status and if deported, they should be deported together.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
No Answer
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I decline to answer fully as I do not believe in a religious test for office. In office I will be an unwavering defender of religious freedom and freedom of conscience for every citizen of Washington State. I am religious and I hope that the life I live publicly reflects that. "The World is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion." - Thomas Paine
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
No Answer
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
I am a Libertarian and this answer is not an option. As such I believe in the Non-Aggression Principle. That it is wrong to initiate force against other people and that the only use of force is in defense against force. Live and Let Live. I believe that consent and only consent legitimizes all government actions. In all locations of this survey where a Libertarian answer was not available I have declined to answer. Such as for question #4 I do not believe government should define marriage, defeating the premise of the question. What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
Everybody comes to office with a lifetime experience and I don't believe mine is lesser or greater than anyone else's. Similar with education backgrounds. However, currently over about 40% of legislators have a law degree background. A significant minority have a military background or business background. My education is in the Sciences of Biology and Engineering and would bring much needed knowledge to the legislature. More importantly I have studied both the State and Federal Constitutions at length as a Supreme Court litigant. Beyond that I have read the works of many of our Nation's founders such as Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine and the letters of George Washington. Most important of all are strong moral and ethical principles. My morals are strongly rooted in my faith and my ethics are defined by the Non-Aggression Principle or Primum non Nocere "First, Do no harm" which is a cornerstone of my campaign.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I am not a Conservative and though it would be easy to lie to pander for votes, I hope you will appreciate my honesty as a Libertarian. I will not legislatively promote any lifestyle. However, I will stand up where sell-out Republicans have not and fiercly protect your right to live your life as you see fit. Your right to live your life as you see fit is only limited by the rights of others to do the same. I respectfully ask for your vote in Washington's 38th Legislative District. In Love and Liberty, David Wiley
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Neutral
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Self-defense is a Natural right and the founders wisely enshrined civil protection to the tools of self-defense. For Public safety all citizens safe to be in public should have access to guns for self-defense, whether they choose to exercise it or not. I do not believe in restraining orders or background checks. If violent criminals are too dangerous to have a weapon then they should not be released in public.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Strongly Agree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
I believe the priority in Washington State at this time is Economic relief for businesses. As such I will try to reduce the tax and regulatory burden on businesses as much as possible. Second we suffer from massive Injustice from a failure of the Justice system. I would seek to publicly audit the CJC (Commission on Judicial Conduct), increase transparency in the Justice system such as web streaming open court room proceedings, calling for impeachment of Judges involved in criminal or other unethical activity violating their code conduct, repeal victimless crimes and overall improve accountability of prosecutors and Judges. My third priority is addressing the housing crisis in Washington State. The Free Market seeks to provide the needs of the consumer, but can't due to crippling regulations and prohibitions by government. I would repeal outdated and racist zoning laws and outlaw municipal or county bans on building low income housing.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
All collectivist ideologies such as racism are a threat to individual life and liberty. I do not believe at this time that Racism is chief among those. Organized groups of racists do not terrorize and threaten large numbers of Americans. Today Americans are threatened by violent Communist groups such as Antifa, criminal drug cartels and Islamist terrorists.
