QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Only when the death of the mother is imminent.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Reduce government discretionary spending. Capital projects for cities and counties should focus on the basic and necessary infrastructure. Allow local governments the ability to manage forest lands. State officials should focus on the role of government in our lives. There is much that government does, that it should not do.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Did not answer
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Thomas Jefferson's correspondence, "separation of church and state" holds no authority in our laws. The first amendment grants religious freedom and I strongly support that freedom.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I would promote healthcare coverage by reducing rules, regulations and red tape. As a County Commissioner, I have spent the last eight years removing rules and regulations for businesses in construction. It has improved the local economy by making it easier for construction companies the flexibility to build and property owners the ability to financially develop their land. Rules, regulations and red tape increase costs to consumers. Choices, competition and flexibility will improve business for health insurers and those seeking insurance.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
State legislators do not have purview over federal immigration law. Some cities have defied federal law and enacted local Ordinances pertaining to immigration such as sanctuary cities, which I do not support.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I won't use my religion to garner votes. I am running on my record, you will know me by my fruits.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
As a County Commissioner, I have voted against raising taxes every year that I have been in office. I was successful at eliminating or reducing permit fees for certain outbuildings in the Planning & Building Dept. I was able to repeal Grays Harbor County’s admission tax that would have affected local events. I have voted many times against contracts, expenditures, programs, projects, and buildings that I did not think the county could afford nor should be involved in. I will continue to use such a process at the state level. When writing or giving my consideration for any senate bills, I will ask some basic and fundamental questions. Is this constitutional? Should the government be involved in this? Can the state afford it? Are citizens better served with this at the local level? Is it a funded mandate?
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I am a citizen of the United States and I live in the district I am running in. Those are the only qualifications necessary to hold office. However, my experience as a Grays Harbor County Commissioner over the last eight years provides me great insight into how government works and should work for the citizens.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I started a career as a Real Estate Appraiser in Grays Harbor but after 7 years decided to serve my community in another capacity, as a public servant. I am currently serving my eighth year as an elected County Commissioner. My wife Ambrea works for the United States Department of Agriculture. We've been married for 12 years and together have three children, Noah, Samuel and Michael who all attend Elma Elementary School. Lastly, I strongly support term limits.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
An increase in gun ownership will decrease crime. Restrictions are not necessary.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Agree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
Term limits, limiting the emergency powers of the Governor and addressing unfunded mandates.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes, it could be. There are radical groups on both sides of this issue that could incite violence and instability in our state and country.
