The SOS does not have power over most of these issues. The Sec of State, or SOS, is the chief elections officer. This person should make sure that your vote counts accurately and honestly, and should be as neutral to political bias as possible. I am not of the two party system. I pledge to make your vote count accurately. These question and answer evaluation pages that are one size fit all don't fit every candidate and every position. What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
The SOS does not have power over this issue. But I support the separation of church and state. And I also support the Secret Ballot, for similar reasons. The Secret Ballot, a pillar of democratic elections, has been undermined by Washington State’s all mail voting system. Any vote that can be signed and sold is fundamentally not a secret ballot. Mail ballots can be signed, left blank, and voted by others. This enables the coercion of votes in numerous ways. Have the reasons we adopted secret ballots as a society disappeared? No. If you elect me, as your Secretary of State, I pledge to kick corporations out of vote counting and to restore the secret ballot.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
The Secretary of State is the Highest Election officer in Washington State. In order to get corporate control out of our vote counting, we must have open source software. We must eliminate corporate controlled vote counting. No other candidate will pledge to do this. The Secretary of State has very limited functions. This position does not function as a legislator. Therefore most of the questions in the questionnaire do not apply to this position. If you want free and fair elections in Washington State and elsewhere, I pledge to restore honest, accurate, public ownership to the process of elections.

I have spent years working on voting integrity issues. No matter your stance on any issue... your vote should count, accurately, honestly, and securely. Everyone should have easy access to voting as well. You can search The No Vote By Mail Project, or novbm.wordpress for more information and years of writing. I worked with Andy Stephenson, as his campaign secretary years ago, for Washington Secretary of State in 2004. The HBO film, "Hacking Democracy" was based on that and surround issues, that it's helpful for you to educate yourself with, if you are not familiar with Computer Voting Issues, and the term, "Black Box Voting."

The SOS does not legislate. But as SOS this is my platform: Private companies control your vote counting software. Clear Ballot Group, Dominion (formerly Diebold), ES&S, and Hart Intercivic are the 4 companies in Washington with certified software to count your vote. Our state’s all mail voting system has not removed these corporations from the system, and your mail ballot is still counted by proprietary, or trade-secret, software.\ If you elect me, I will champion publicly owned open source software. Open source software allows anyone to look at the computer code and verify elections are counted accurately. Implementing “publicly owned” vote counting software would further remove corporations from the system by directly eliminating vendor owned software.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes. In terms of voting, turnout is something that is fought endlessly by both sides. Voter suppression, targeted largely at minorities, and gerrymandering are issues that would be directly in the job description of the Secretary of State. So I believe it is certainly a threat in many ways to your vote. Vote-By Mail for instance, disenfranchises those who move addresses more frequently, poor folks, minorities, and especially african americans. "Your chance of losing your vote if you’re African American and young is about six times that if you’re an older white person, that your ballot will be disqualified for some reason." According to research by reporter Greg Palast. There's ways both great and small in which the way the voting system is created, developed, and run, can affect different groups in vastly different and uneven, or unequal ways.
