QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Disagree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Neutral
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Did not answer
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
I am a first time candidate and do not pretend to know the entire state budget yet. There are always programs, projects and issues that must be prioritized and then looked to see where cuts can be made. While there may not be bad ideas, it may be bad timing. With the current pandemic, everyone is going to have to be part of the solution. Public safety, (police/fire) Education, Infrastructure are an example.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Disagree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Government should not regulate peaceful religious activities. Government should not teach or force religion on the public.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Neutral
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
The system is overly cumbersome and restrictive. Healthcare is too expensive for many parents and single parents to afford. Single plans are not as good as group plans, but the individual needing insurance most likely has fewer resources than someone in a group plan. Prescription drug prices are restrictive and costly, prices need to come down. Somehow, we need ensure all children have access to healthcare/dentalcare even if the parents cannot afford full family coverage.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
I am not opposed to anyone wanting to become a U.S. Citizen as long as they are within the laws to do so. I would be opposed to a known terrorist or someone with a serious criminal past from entering. I also feel it should be an easier process for people to become citizens and not take years to accomplish. Also, for children who have grown up here, gone to school here and want to become citizens, there needs to be an easier path to citizenship.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Neutral
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe after attending many different religious ceremonies that most religions teach many of the same values of kindness, treating each other with respect and of being a good person. Individual religions have specific teachings and ways of achieving those goals. Peaceful religious activity regardless should always be protected. It is an individual choice.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Somewhat Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
My website has my positions and ideas on my views.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I have over 30 years of public service in Law Enforcement ending my career as the Chief of the Lacey Police Department. I want to keep serving. Solving problems is what I done for most of my career and I know I can make a difference. Public safety, small business and homelessness are some of the areas I want to ensure we stay focused on. Budgets are going to need trimmed due to the pandemic, but I will protect pensions.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I have spent most of my life serving the public, I know I can do a good job for the citizens of Washingtons 22nd Legislative District and look forward to the honor in serving again.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I believe in the 2nd amendment. I also believe people can lose some of their rights by their actions and gun ownership falls into one of those categories. Finding ways to better restrict ownership to subjects who are mentally ill, violent criminals and in crisis are good. Many of our laws already are in place to keep the public safe, everyone must be part of a safe community, getting involved, reporting crime and keeping their guns (if they own them) safe from theft.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Neutral
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
Ensure our current laws are properly enforced and penalties carried out. Pilot project on homelessness, accountability (rescue) and treatment. Reduce burdens on small business
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism is a threat anywhere. It has no place in our community or country.
