RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I believe that taking an innocent life through abortion is immoral. As such, I cannot imagine a circumstance when such an action is acceptable, with the potential exception of a case where the mother's life is in danger and therefore the baby will not survive. That said, as a Christian believer, while I do not believe they should be permitted to abort their child, I feel strongly that we must approach those who were victims of rape or incest with a strong measure of grace and mercy. Their unborn child should still be allowed to live, but we need to reach out in love to address the horrible situation in which they find themselves, through no fault of their own. The issue of abortion is the top priority for me, especially in light of the potential that Roe v Wade will be overturned. I am the Founder of the House of Representatives Pro-Life Caucus to prepare for the legislative demands of keeping abortion illegal in Michigan if the Supreme Court does send the power to regulate abortion back to the states.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
This is moral depravity to think that any unit of government would be allowed to spend money to abort a child.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
Being Pro-Life means supporting all life at every stage.
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
I believe in eliminating unnecessary taxes wherever they are found and have sponsored bills in the State Legislature to do just that. Also, I believe we should begin to work towards eliminating the state income tax, and in the meantime, work to lower taxes along the way.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
I would look for unnecessary projects that are buried deep in budget bills. I also support finding new efficiencies in school funding, while getting rid of unnecessary state offices and programs.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
The First Amendment protects the rights of religious people to practice their religion without government interference. I have a long background working with organizations from Campus Crusade for Christ to the Christian Broadcasting Network. Also, within my business I have produced dozens of films and videos to promote Christian ministry around the world. I cannot imagine being forced to take on clients and work on projects that violate my faith!
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
The government should not be allowed to close churches. The government has every right to enforce criminal laws, but there is no right to close legitimate churches.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
I believe parents should be allowed to make the determinations for their children according to their conscience, and people have the right to not be vaccinated against their will.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
We need to continue to invest in our military and intelligence capabilities - especially in terms of human intelligence on the ground in regions know to harbor terrorists. I was in the Pentagon when the plane attacked on 9/11, and subsequently produced a national television special in honor of the victims lost in the Pentagon that day. As such, terrorism has hit very close to home for me. I also believe we need to invest in our military space program and all cyber-security efforts to enhance our surveillance and intelligence capabilities worldwide.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Disagree
The United States of America is duty bound to stand with Israel.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
We absolutely should continue to build the wall and protect our borders. I believe strongly in legal immigration and believe we need to address the backlog in legal immigration cases. But, those who break the law to enter our country should be stopped.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
I believe in legal immigration - this is the foundation of our nation and the source of the American Dream. We should do whatever we can to attract families involved with skilled labor and professionals, especially in industries where
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Strongly Agree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I have produced films on the Judeo-Christian roots of America, and co-authored a book on the topic with Dr. Bill Bright, Founder of Campus Crusade for Christ. This country simply does not work without this strong spiritual and moral background, a fact that John Adams referenced when he declared that our Constitution was intended solely for a moral and religious people and that it was "wholly inadequate" for the governance of any other.
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Our society is in serious trouble if we cannot even answer the most basic, fundamental question of human life - asked with the birth of every new child: "Is it a boy or a girl?" Our modern culture is sowing confusion amongst our children and families. I believe years from now, we run the risk of looking at an unrecognizable country that was led astray by this exact type of movement.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Strongly Agree
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
I co-authored the House of Representatives bill defining and banning the teaching of Critical Race Theory in Michigan schools.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a follower of Jesus, and believe He is the Lord and only path to salvation. I look to the Lord for guidance and believe the Holy Spirit informs us on a daily basis. I have worked directly for many ministries of many different denominations that are Jesus-centered and Scripturally based - from starting my career producing documentaries at the Christian Broadcasting Network, to co-authoring a book on God's purpose for America with Dr. Bill Bright, Founder of Campus Crusade for Christ (the book was called Red Sky in the Morning.) I have made promotional films on church building ministries around the world - throughout India, China, Cambodia, Vietnam and East Africa. I have been a part of a behind-the-scenes Jesus-centered group in Washington, DC, whose only public program is the National Prayer Breakfast, every year in February and attended by every President since Eisenhower. This involvement has put me at the feet of some of the world's great Christian leaders for 3 decades. I am currently the co-Chair of the House Prayer Breakfast in the Michigan House of Representatives.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I voted to eliminate the ability to vote without showing an ID. A mere look at the number of things we cannot do without a photo ID proves the case that we should require photo ID when exercising this critical right to vote.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
I have been involved in an entire package of bills to improve our voting system. After the past two Presidential elections, people from both political parties have expressed concerns about potentially fraudulent activity in our elections. If so many people are dissatisfied with the state of our elections, it seems like common sense that we should look for ways to improve the system. As a State Representative, I have supported more than 40 individual election reform bills, and have sponsored several of them. These include things like mandating photo identification and a bill I am about to introduce to allow poll books to be reopened if they are out of balance. The problem is that every bill we have sent to the Governor has been vetoed, and we need either a bigger majority to overturn such vetoes, or a new Governor who is committed to election integrity. The moment we have either of those situations, we have dozens of bills ready to go.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
I think there is danger in overestimating how much genuine racism there is today, and question what that modern definition of racism has become. Those who have paid the price for serious racism like "whites only" drinking fountains should be offended by some of the claims of racism that exist today. Racism does not extend to lifestyle choices, for example. And, people often use accusations of racism to forward radical social agendas, especially in universities. I believe genuine racism is morally wrong, but many people use the word to advance radical agendas under its guise.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Agree
We must end the all out assault on the oil and gas industry. I believe we owe these industries a debt of gratitude for establishing our modern world. And while new technologies and sources of energy are exciting, we also need to continue to push forward with all forms of oil and gas production.
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
The general purpose of government is to do only those things that must be done collectively - things like protect a level playing field, defending property rights, and preventing violent crime. The government must protect us from foreign enemie, and institute policies that lead to the most free and open society possible within a morally just framework.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
As I stated in my last campaign, I believe that we, as Christians, have the responsibility to lead with grace and civility. The great spiritual mentors I've had like Bill Bright, Harald Bredesen, and Doug Coe invested their time into shaping who I am and what I believe. They modeled this grace and civility every day of their lives. So too my faithful parents, and my amazing wife of 27 years, and our four precious kids have inspired me. There will be vigorous conflicts since we adhere to principles that are far different from the prevailing trends of the world. But it is our task to attempt to persuade and attract people to the views we hold dear. I always laugh when someone accuses a follower of Jesus of trying to "force their beliefs" on someone else because we know that isn't even possible. If someone says "Jesus is Lord" only out of compulsion, it doesn't count. So, my goal in leading is to celebrate the truth, and invite people to embrace the ideas and principles that have driven me since I was young.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Strongly Agree
I have worked closely with police officers throughout my time in public service. The single biggest concern that would drive them out of the job would be to take away qualified immunity. It is time that we stop our attack on law enforcement in this country and recognize the service and sacrifice of those who serve in this capacity.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I do not support infringements on our 2nd Amendment rights.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
