QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
In the rare instance that a mother's life is in danger from a pregnancy it is permissible. However, the termination of the pregnancy should involve great effort to save the baby if it is at any stage of viability.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Pork barrel projects need to be eliminated, government salaries should be cut, departments need to be evaluated for efficiencies and reduce spending where possible. We need to rotate priorities each year requiring government services to plan ahead and make wise decisions in major spending. There have been too many times that money has been invested in projects that are scrapped shortly after. We also need to stop the poor decisions resulting in lawsuits and multi-million dollar settlements.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
No Answer
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Separation of church and state is a phrase that was created in a court decision and I do not believe it is a proper understanding of the constitution's mandate that there must be "freedom of religion". I would be supportive of this being challenged in court. I believe state and local governments have the right to have religious displays, especially those that have been in existence for a long time. Our country was undeniably created with Judeo-Christian values and an acknowledgment of the blessings of God upon the founding fathers and citizens. It is not wrong to continue that recognition.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I believe our largest problem is the cost of health care which also has a direct effect on the cost of health insurance. I want to do several things including making costs of services transparent allowing patients to choose doctors based on price as well as easily knowing if they are being overcharged compared to other offices. I want services to have the same charges no matter what circumstances an injury occurred (in the home, workplace, auto accident) and no matter what insurance a patient has. A person paying cash shouldn't be charged more than someone using Blue Cross/Blue Shield and vice versa. I also want to encourage the growth of non-profit insurance programs and health care facilities.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Neutral
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Disagree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Neutral
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a faithful Christian and belong to the Roman Catholic Church. I attend Nativity of the Lord Parish in Alma/St. Louis.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
More information about my campaign and issues I have focused on is available at my website www.comden4mirep.com.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I have a Master's Degree in Theology and for most of my life have worked for non-profit organizations in administrative positions. I have had a lot of experience in evaluating priorities and trimming budgets. My best qualification is a sincere desire to represent the people in my district and be their voice in Lansing. I will not simply go out and "listen" during campaign season, but will actively engage constituents through the entirety of my term.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
All of the answers above are my own thoughts and opinions. As a representative I will speak and vote on behalf of the people of District 70 even if the will of the people is contrary to my own opinion. The only exception is matters of great moral importance such as abortion. I cannot, in good conscience, vote in favor of anything promoting abortion. Hypothetically, if my district were to suddenly be pro-abortion I would simply vote 'present' to maintain my integrity and not vote against the will of the people.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Neutral
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
No Answer
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Restrictions on gun ownership should be very limited. I am supportive of universal background checks and bans on fully automatic weapons, but beyond that people's constitutional right to bear arms needs to be respected.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Neutral
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1. The repeal of burdensome and unhelpful education legislation such as the requirement to begin school after Labor Day and flunking 3rd graders who have difficulties with reading. 2. Reforms to the healthcare industry as mentioned in my answer to question #27. 3. The formation of a committee to investigate the quality of Michigan's road building/repairing process with the purpose of finding a method to actually create NEW roads that will last longer instead of using the same process that lasts just long enough to make another campaign promise. These priorities may change as I continue to talk with voters and hear more of their ideas and wants.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
