QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Abortion should not be allowed in any circumstance, except when the life of the mother is in imminent and certain danger. "Life" in this case should be narrowly and medically defined, and should NOT include such loose concepts as mental health or life satisfaction. I also find it appalling that my opponent has become the poster boy for Planned Parenthood. As their last mailer to our district from Planned Parenthood said "State Representative Jim Haadsma is a tireless advocate for reproductive health and justice". This election honestly means life or death to many and I will always fight to protect life to those who's voice can not be heard.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
It is important to look at every level of government and adjust it to assure that tax revenues are directed where they are needed most.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Strongly Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
This is one of the most grossly misunderstood concepts causing division today. The term "separation of church and state" is not in the Constitution, nor in any founding document. In its original use, this separation was intended to keep the government from either forcing a government-sponsored religion onto its citizens, or from punishing religious expression with which the state disagreed. In other words, the state had no right to force or interfere with religious observance. The concept was never intended to keep religiously themed artwork or other displays from public buildings or property. That has been a misunderstanding that has led to misapplication of the concept.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
The number one issue is to make sure government does not tax families into a position where they can not afford adequate and affordable healthcare.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Our current immigration laws in place and should be followed
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian and believe as an elected official we should lead our lives in a way that reflects our beliefs.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
As Pennfield Charter Township Supervisor, I have focused on reducing debt and putting our township in the best possible position to grow moving forward. We eliminated tax-payer funded pensions for all new hires, while protecting the pensions of past employees. As for myself, I will not be part of the township's pension plan, saving the township money in the future. I also elected not to accept the township's healthcare plan, saving the township over $48,000 during my term. We have reduced township debt, and eliminated unneeded ordinances which could be costly to our residents and township.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
As the Pennfield Charter Township Supervisor I have had the opportunity to work with many municipalities on issues effecting their communities. As a United States Veteran I understand what is takes to lead with integrity.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
Never.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I will work non-stop for the betterment of our community and state.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution answers this question
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
Property tax relief for seniors Long term infrastructure planning Consolidation of Government Services for taxpayer savings and debt reduction
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism is a challenging issue and one that needs to be at the forefront of areas we focus on in out state and nationally. But what makes this issue worse is the fact that to many people and political figures will throw the word "Racism" around as a weapon they will use in an attempt to gain a political edge. This should not be accepted anymore than a true act of racism. We need to focus on bringing people together not finding ways to divide them and as our State Representative I will be doing just that.
