QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I believe that life is life. The only circumstance in which that should be nullified is in the instance where the mother's life is in extreme danger.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Strongly Disagree

ECONOMY

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

I support doing away with the personal income tax in the State of Michigan. We can adjust to not having those funds and it continues to make our state less viable when competing with other states for economic development.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

Cuts across the board are necessary and no institution should be free from analysis as to the efficient use of the money entrusted to them. Elected leaders MUST stop thinking of money as theirs to spend. It is my neighbors in which I am trusted to be as financially critical and mindful as possible. We do not need bigger government. We need better, smaller government.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Disagree

Our current system has many issues but we should not increase free tuition through college. By the time someone is at the age to attend college, they have the ability to figure out attendance, payment, work schedules, etc. They may not be able to attend the school they want but they can an education. This process has always been a part of motivating students. Do better, study more, work harder and greater options will be available to you. To remove this only adds to entitlement mentaility.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

The separation of church and state is not equal. If you study the constitution you will see that church was protected from government, not both ways. Businesses and business owners have the right to run their businesses as they see provided it does not violate our laws.

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

By definition, the church is those that worship. The physical building is not the church. My instinct would be that we always prosecute people that break the law.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

C. I also think we must examine and undo the expansion of Medicaid and Medicare for those that have been allowed to abuse the system.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

I do not believe in forced vaccinations.

NATIONAL SECURITY

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

ONLY engage in military conflicts when our resolve is to end them. Police and protectionary actions cost money, cost lives, and we never achieve anything. I will say that any institution that has a belief in the destruction and eradication of anyone that does not agree with them should be stopped when they pose a threat to the safety of our country, freedom, and ability to practice the faith of our choice.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Strongly Disagree

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

Our southern border crisis has become a soft invasion of our country. We are a kind people and we want to help others. But, there is a point where if you continue to help you jeopardize your own safety and security. Think of a liferaft designed for 10 people. You may be able to get 12 o4 13 people in without sinking but at some point, you have to stop letting people in the raft or it sinks and everyone dies. Our country must resolve many domestic issues before we decide to fix the world.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Those who go through the legal channels for school, visiting the US, or those seeking legitimate asylum.

EDUCATION

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Strongly Agree

Our country will always maintain a strong private school system as it is needed for the majority of my neighbors. I am a product of public schools and my children attend public schools. However, parents must have the authority to oversee the education of their children based on their needs of the child. One size fits all rarely works.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

Leadership is not exercising authority. It is the wisdom of knowing when and when not to take action. Restraint is critical. Just because you can do something does not mean you should.

I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.

Strongly Disagree

We are born a certain way. If someone emotionally feels differently there are a number of ways to address that and I will always defend equality for all. However, you do not get special treatment because you "feel" a certain way. There is a difference between seeking exceptionalism and granting exceptions to everyone. One leads to success. The other leads to a reduction in known paradigms and rules. That ultimately will tear apart any society.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition

Strongly Agree

The is a religious practice. Civil unions are not marriages.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

CRT is another attempt to make people believe in a theory that simply does not exist. In a world where we routinely have minority successes at the highest level of every field, it cannot be logically supported that CRT exists. This is another attempt to guilt people into submission to an idea that a select few share.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian and am saved based on the grace of my God who sent his only son to die for my sins. I believe that everything I do well is Christ in me. All that I do poorly is me. This keeps me humbled and causes me not to focus on attention or victory laps because they are not mine to enjoy. The glory is given to God. I believe in equality and will fight, as I have a police officer, Deputy Chief of Police, and legislator to ensure that our laws and systems promote opportunity for all. I believe kindness is largely missing from our world and continue to be concerned about the ever-shrinking number of people in our country who practice their faith. Laws and policy act as bumpers to keep us on the road. Our faith, however, is the map that guides us to where we are going.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

We have photo requirements for hundreds of things. Voting is the core of our nation and our right to cast our voice for those that guide us. Elections must be secure and we cannot do so without ensuring that we have one vote, per adult.

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

Absentee ballot voting has become a means of convenience instead of a solution to several key issues. I believe they should be limited to those who cannot physically come out to vote or those on military deployment. Very few other circumstances should be applied.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

No. Most crimes against minorities in the United States are committed by the same minority. We very definitely should be looking at early childhood education, poverty, opportunity, etc. But we do not have "systematic racism in our state."

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

There is no one alive who suffered this tragedy and therefore, there is no legal basis to reward it. Again, this is a talking point by the progressive left to further divide our state and nation.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

A. For us to thrive we must be safe and secure. We cannot be either as long as our energy dependency is on other nations. We should quickly ramp up energy operations in a number of different methodologies. Technology will continue to advance cleaner production. But we cannot be weak as a nation based on one ideological perspective.

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.

Strongly Agree

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

At the state and federal levels, it should be to provide a MINIMAL amount of oversight and guidance for the state. To ensure safety and security, assist communities with growth, and ensure education. It was never meant to do more than half of what it does.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Small government, free market, less regulation, pro-life, pro-constitution, against bail reform, strong supporter of states rights.

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

I have several editorials that have run locally and across the state where I have championed these ideas. Some can be found at my state representative webpage and many can be found by googling TC Clements.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

Never.

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

People have been left out of government for far too long. We used to believe that our leaders would do the right thing for those they represent. What we have seen is many elected people do whatever they want versus what is best for those they represent. I believe that PEOPLE matter. WE THE PEOPLE must engage again in our government. It is not really fun, not really what most of us want to do but something we need to do so that government will be accountable to us. As an elected leader I can tell you that representing my neighbors is not hard work. It is emotionally challenging as we work through many concepts and laws that can have far-reaching effects. But, doing the work is easy if we all do two things: Be honest and do what we say we are going to do. I start every speech I give with a promise: If you elect me I promise in the first year I am going to do something to thoroughly upset you. It is true. I can just bare get my family of five to agree on whats for dinner much less make 300,000 people happy with EVERY vote. But, I also promise I will use logic when making decisions. They will be what is best for my neighbors, not me. And, when asked about why I did something I will give straight logical answers and will not do the political two-step verbally. My hope is that even if we continue to disagree we can respect one another. My neighbors have every right to expect this out of those they ask to lead. I am prepared to do just that. Lastly, I don't seek titles or lime-light. I have always been about getting the work done. I don't seek the praise, I seek the completion as I can then move on to the next project. I have three titles that matter to me: Christian, husband, and father. Everything else is passing or fleeting. Don't get me wrong, I work hard and will typically outwork those around me. But I have always said if you need a title you probably don't deserve the title. Just go do the work and people will notice what you do. I hope to earn the vote of my neighbors as I run for State Senate. I am not the candidate of the establishment. Other legislators, key businesses, and a ton of money has not surrounded me in an effort to win. Instead, we have focused on our neighbors and their needs. Talking to them, but more importantly...listening. If you are in District 16 of the Michigan State Senate and you TC Clements on your ballot, I would love to earn your vote and be your voice in Lansing. I am reflective of you. Effective for you.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Strongly Agree

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Strongly Disagree

We absolutely must address mental health in our state and nation but defunding the police is not the answer.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

None. Guns do not kill people any more than forks make someone obese. It is the person misusing the weapon.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.

Strongly Disagree

They should be able to sue the user and possibly the location owners. Not manufacturers.
