OTHER INFORMATION
QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Disagree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I am pro-choice including the choice to follow your spiritual convictions. I believe that it is not the role of government to be involved in these personal decisions and that these questions are best resolved by an individual guided by consultation with their doctor and the spiritual, moral and philosophical teachings of their choosing. No taxpayer dollars should be used for abortion procedures (or any other healthcare matter).
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
All of it.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Strongly Disagree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Separation of Church and State is an expression of religious liberty. Government should take no action that limits or infringes on a person's right to practice whatever belief system they choose. Also, the Government should take no action that promotes or favors one belief system over others.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
To the greatest extent possible the government should be removed from healthcare service industry, the health insurance industry and the pharmaceutical industry. The issues we have with rising medical costs and reduced accessibility are related to too much government involvement and too much regulation.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Disagree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Neutral
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Disagree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
We should have wide open doors and welcome all people to freely migrate to this great country. The only exclusions should be for actual violent criminals and those who pose a threat to the security of our communities.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Disagree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Disagree
Promotion of the LGBT agenda in public schools, including teaching of “sexual orientation” and “gender identity”, is completely inappropriate and should be opposed at the state and local level.
Strongly Disagree
I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.
Agree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe that the government should not attempt to legislate morality including creating special classes of persons or providing incentives or penalties targeting any particular belief, relationship or association with others, personal behavior or other characteristic. If we hold true to these principles an individual legislator's private spiritual beliefs would be irrelevant.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
No Answer
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
I disagree that we can or should reduce anyone's views on "a wide range of issues" to a single binary compartmentalization of liberal or conservative - which in themselves are vague and ambiguous labels capable of multiple meanings. The problems we face in our communities is exacerbated by an us-versus-them mentality and the desire to reduce complex nuanced issues to media digestible labels. Morality and ethics are not team sports. Please see https://www.elliottfortexas.com for detail on my positions.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I have a law degree and more than 20 years of legal and business experience. I have spent decades building business, creating jobs growing and securing wealth and supporting my communities. I have learned that whatever the problem is, government is never the answer.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
No survey can cover every issue important to voters. Please feel free to refer to https://www.elliottfortexas.com for more detailed responses on many issues, or reach out to me directly at brian@elliottfortexas.com and I would be glad to answer any additional questions.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
None.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Agree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Strongly Agree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1. Reduce and Eliminate unnecessary taxes. Texas homes are not the governments ATMs. Texans' home equity should not be pillaged for every new project the government can dream up. 2. Comprehensive Criminal Justice reform including - bail reform, elimination of civil asset forfeiture, legalization of marijuana, no-jail time for victimless crimes, incarceration alternatives, end drivers license suspension as punishment 3. Reduce homelessness. Repeal laws that criminalize addiction, comprehensive property code reform removing barriers to affordable housing, provide support for charities to flourish.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism is despicable in every context. The bigger threat to domestic security however, is the system that promotes divisiveness and polarization by creating and promoting protected classes and positioning every issue into an us-versus-them false dichotomy.
