OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Neutral

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Under the framework of circumstances established by the Roe v Wade decision. It has been a massive waste of political energy to attempt to revisit this compromise and influence it in either direction.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Disagree

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Strongly Disagree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

The Ten Commandments should not be displayed in public school buildings or court houses.

Agree

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

Yes

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

Protecting individuals freedoms to worship as they please. Governments not passing laws which enforce a certain religion's view of morality. Educational systems teaching about the complete spectrum of the world's religions (including the non-religious) so that students are actually prepared for what the world is like.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Strongly Disagree

EDUCATION

The federal government should mandate standards and requirements (such as Common Core) for local schools.

Disagree

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Disagree

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Neutral

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Disagree

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Neutral

Promotion of the LGBT agenda in public schools, including teaching of “sexual orientation” and “gender identity”, is completely inappropriate and should be opposed at the state and local level.

Disagree

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Neutral

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I have a strong faith in God. I believe that we are all one human family. I don't feel that the religions of the Earth are in conflict. Nor are religions in conflict with science. I believe that God exists all around us and within each human. It's up to all of us to treat each human compassionately and with respect.

ABOUT YOU

I voted in these primaries and general elections:

2018 Democratic Primary, 2018 General Election

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Moderate

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

Compassionately liberal (socially) and fiscally conservative; can we please start paying down the debt and seriously invest in education instead of war?

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

The following experiences qualify me to hold the office of Texas State Board of Education: - Attended many Round Rock ISD board meetings - Performed a two year scientific study comparing block scheduling to traditional scheduling - Served on a Citizen's Bond Committee for Round Rock ISD - Served as a guest teacher at the high school and elementary level - Volunteered with Junior Achievement in elementary classrooms - Retired in 2017 due to consistently practicing good money management through a high savings rate - Educated as a software engineer which means I seek ways to make iterative improvements. A strong desire to apply my experience as a systems engineer to improving our educational systems.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

My top priorities while serving on the Texas State Board of Education are: 1. Advocating for Mental Health education as part of the Texas curriculum. 2. Financial literacy, life skills, and logical thinking for every student. 3. Remove at least three times as many entries in the TEKS as what is being added. The purpose of this is to give our educators the freedom to be creative in their classroom instruction. Thank you for reading my answers. I wish you and your family prosperous, long lives!

2ND AMENDMENT

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
