Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I believe that the decision is an individual choice and not one for me to decide for others. The decision is life altering for all involved and not one that should or that is often taken lightly. History has shown us that when abortion was outright illegal the practice still continued putting even more at risk. Due to this I do believe that the option needs to be available for the extreme circumstances that can arise and lead to such a difficult decision. I support the states current law which limits abortion to the first 20 weeks but also believe we need to do better making sure that those making the decision not only are 110% sure but also have the resources available to them before, during, and after to make the most informed decision possible of all options as well include access to mental health professionals since we know that these decisions have life long lasting mental health impacts often times.

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Separation of church and state means to me simply that the government can't impose any actions on any religion that isn't imposed on everyone. In short it means that the government can't play favoritism to any religion and must treat all equally as I believe it should be not just for religion but everyone.

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
'm a big believer that we need a complete rehaul of our healthcare coverage and insurance industries. In the mean time while we continue to work to improve and change those systems we have to make sure that those most at risk and most effected aren't left out as is currently the case here in NC and across the nation. Right now those who are working full time but still making below poverty and live paycheck to paycheck are the most harshly hit. Since NC refused to expand Medicaid and they don't qualify for the ACA subsidy these individuals are without health coverage since they can't afford to pay $300-$1500/mnt. We need ACA to lower the threshold for subsidies allowing them affordable healthcare or for the state to expand Medicaid. Aside from this we have to open up interstate exchanges as well as allow prescription drugs from our ally nations until we can correct the pricing inconsistencies.

America is the land of immigrants and is at its best when we are allowed to be the melting pot of the world. Anyone who can pass the needed background checks should be allowed to immigrate to the US. I do believe we do still need an immigration process instead of having open borders but that the process needs to be streamlined so that how much someone can pay doesn't dictate who can most quickly become a citizen. We need to reform the system from the ground up to stream line the process and make it more easily obtained by the average person. We also have to understand that we can't hold those who were children when they were brought here and this is the only home they know accountable for the actions of their parents. Dreamers and DACA have proven their desire to be Americans, and they have put in the time and should be granted a pathway that allows just that without having to return to a country they have never known.

Growing up the grandson of a Southern Baptist Minister my moral and ethical foundation was built on Christian fundamentals. I however don't and never will hide the fact that I identify as Agnostic which simply means that I don't believe one can ever truly PROVE beyond doubt any religion. Still I do consider myself spiritual and do pray. When I do pray I pray to Jesus Christ. I also believe in religious freedom that extends to ALL religions and understand that everyone should have the right to openly and peacefully be allowed to worship as they see fit with no religion or lack there of placed above legally any other. My belief system is one that teaches me that I have the right to my own beliefs just as everyone else but also to understand that my individual beliefs and freedoms end where another person's begin and vice versa.

During that time I have seen a growing number of people become fed up with the entire election process because they never see any positive change and more and more feel they have no voice. I don't come from money, and I wasn't hand appointed by party leadership for this position. I'm running because I know first hand the struggle the people of District 23 are facing. I see daily the need for that helping hand only to have them reach out and get no reply. I'm qualified to hold this office because I am of, for, and by the people I look to serve. I also understand that as a public official my job is to indeed SERVE those I represent, putting their needs and interest above my own. To truly serve you must first listen and understand and there is no candidate in this race that has spent more time doing that than I have.

My campaign is self funded and from a household that is working middle class. I understand the needs of Edgecombe and Martin counties. I understand the concerns of the working class, of teachers, of farmers, of factory and restaurant workers just as I do corporate executives, entrepreneurs, and the like. I work daily to help build our communities and am actively involved. I am not a passive citizen that spends all my time in other areas but investing in the people and businesses here at home. If you are tired of feeling like you have no voice in Raleigh I'm your candidate. If you want someone that is willing to listen to you I'm your candidate. The majority of those who commit gun violence do so in direct breach of laws we already have. Adding new restrictions alone will not in any way lower the curve. Instead I believe we have to do better at figuring out the root cause and curving the behavior before it reaches the level of violence. We have to invest more in mental health and remove the stigma that is still attached in many communities. We also need to better enforce laws we already have eliminating legal loopholes.
