OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Agree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Agree

I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.

Agree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Only in cases of incest, rape, or where the birth would, in all likelihood, end the life of the mother.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

At the state level, I'd vote for across-the-board percentage cuts and let each agency choose which programs do not provide core services or cannot fund themselves. Further, any agencies that have had large percentage gains in their budgets in recent years could revert back, at least partially, to prior levels. If I had to choose specific agencies, however, I would target the Governor's Office, Legislature, Judiciary, Environmental, Arts, Tourism, and Recreation first.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Strongly Agree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Agree

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

Yes

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

Thomas Jefferson used this phrase to explain these protections of the First Amendment: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...” Subsequently, the French philosopher Alexis de Toqueville built upon the concept in his observations that religion in America was strong because there was no government-sponsored or established church. Of course, the free exercise clause does not allow for practices that cause harm, but it does not mean that Christians have no opportunity to influence public policy decisions for good. As my own state's U.S. Senator, James Lankford, wrote in a 2018 article he co-authored: “Jefferson was not suggesting that religious people or religious motivations should be exiled from public debate,” and, most importantly, “Separation of church and state doesn’t shut down our debates over religion in the public square; it guarantees the freedom for us to respectfully have those debates.”

HEALTHCARE

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

Strongly Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

I believe Oklahoma needs to be focused on initiatives that lower costs and improve health outcomes for all Oklahomans. Greater price transparency and elimination of surprise billing practices would certainly help. Other options may include maintaining incentives for employers to hire the uninsured and provide them with insurance; creating incentives for greater provision of health care in rural hospitals and clinics; and lowering prescription drug prices by reducing the role of administrators in the payment process. There are better solutions at the national level than the universal health care proposed by liberal politicians.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Agree

IMMIGRATION

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Strongly Agree

State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.

Agree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

People who are willing and able to obey our laws, assimilate into our culture, and learn the English language. People who will work hard, contribute to our prosperity, and refuse to be a drain on our resources. My understanding is that the U.S. currently allows (a) immediate relatives to U.S. citizens (and it gives preference to other relatives); (b) immigration based on certain employment criteria, including certain priority workers, religious workers, investors, and workers granted a labor certification due to a shortage of qualified, willing, and available U.S. workers; (c) refugees and /or political asylum seekers; (d) those who enter through a lottery program for nationals from countries with low rates of immigration to the U.S.; and (e) a few other ways to immigrate for which very few people qualify. We do not allow those who have a history of criminal or terrorist activities, drug abuse, infectious medical problems, or certain other characteristics.

EDUCATION

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

Essentially, I believe "God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, so that whosoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life."(John 3:16) I became a Christian at the age of seven, and have been a Baptist most of my life, although I attended a Methodist college for a time and a Presbyterian church for a short while after that. My children attend a Catholic Augustinian school and have attended a Jewish summer camp as well as another one founded by those in the Pentecostal tradition. Accordingly, my beliefs are steeped, primarily, in the Holy Bible, the Apostle's Creed, and the Baptist Faith and Message. I believe in God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. God is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. Mankind was created by God and in his image, and he loves us perfectly. My values, therefore, are rooted in the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:23)

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

I'm not sure what information would satisfy this request. I suppose someone who is a current office holder could provide a record of his or her votes, but someone who has not held public office in the traditional sense has no such record. My service as a state committeewoman for our local Republican Party and my service on the state platform committee should count. My position on several committees and boards for my local Republican Women's Club and my attendance at state and national Federation of Republican Women's Conventions may also give you an idea of my commitment to conservative policies. If you view my campaign page on Facebook, you can also see that I attended our local March for Life, and you might also be able to contact Oklahomans for Life to see the survey I completed in 2018. I have also campaigned for conservative candidates and office holders and I have consistently voted for conservatives, but I suppose that would not be publicly available information.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I have a bachelor's degree in political science and economics, and a master's degree in international history and politics. My experiences as a lawyer in Tulsa have been very broad, as I have worked on cases involving Oklahoma citizens, businesses, and state agencies on many different types of legal challenges, and that experience has equipped to deal with the wide variety of topics and laws that are debated in the state legislature. Further, I grew up on a farm and ranch on the other side of the State so, even though I now live in urban Tulsa, I will be able to work well with rural legislators. My experiences working in local, state and national politics, as detailed above, have allowed me to learn from and work with many past and current lawmakers and public officials. Most important, my experience as a wife and mother in this district for the past 26 years has made me intimately acquainted with the issues that affect the daily lives of my constituents.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No. Never.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I’m hesitant to write about my political aspirations on a survey where matters of faith are paramount because, like many citizens, I'm skeptical of politicians, and business people, for that matter, who seem to ask for votes, or money, by invoking the name of Christ. At the same time, I don’t ever want to be seen as denying Christ. But I’m encouraged by the words of renowned businesswoman Mary Kay Ash who, when a reporter asked if she was “using God” to further her business interests, humbly replied, “Oh, I sincerely hope not. I hope that God is using me.” And that is my hope as I pursue a life-long dream to be an elected official and public servant.

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.

Disagree

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.

Agree

2ND AMENDMENT

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

Yes

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I believe that the current restrictions on ineligible persons, like felons, fugitives, illegal aliens, and others defined in federal law, are needed. Limited restrictions currently in the laws relating to the carrying of firearms in certain public buildings dedicated to law enforcement, like courthouses, for example, may also be warranted. Finally, I think private property owners should be able to restrict the carrying of weapons on their premises.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Disagree

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Disagree

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?

(a) Economic recovery, growth, and development (b) Educational funding reforms and school choice initiatives (c) Judicial selection and lawsuit reform

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Those who espouse hatred stemming from any violent supremacist ideology certainly pose a threat to domestic security and should be condemned, but many people unfairly accuse conservatives like President Trump of racism merely because they want immigration laws enforced, or because they want to prevent terrorists from entering the country, or because they want to prevent carriers of deadly viruses from entering the country. Further, I think racism can become a threat to domestic security when law enforcement officials' fear of being labeled racist overrides their obligation to investigate, arrest or prosecute people for engaging in criminal activities.
