OTHER INFORMATION
QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
To save the life of the mother, rape, & incest.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?
We must honor the commitments made & what people planned their retirements around, especially those that are in or near retirement. However, reforms do need to be made in order for the system to remain solvent for my generation & beyond. That will likely mean changes for people of my age group & younger.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
I support a balanced budget amendment. Congress should have to balance their budget like every household & local & state governments. A balanced budget can be achieved in about 5 years with the adoption of the Penny Plan, which would cut 1 penny for every dollar spent
Under what circumstances should taxpayers help pay off existing student loans?
None.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
It means government will not sanction a religion. It does NOT mean people of faith can't serve in government & express their deeply held religious beliefs.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
I support the elimination of private healthcare insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
We must bring competition back to the market. We have the best healthcare system in the world. Our health insurance system is awful! We no longer have an insurance system, we have pre-paid healthcare. Premiums & deductibles are too high. The way to lower that is by reducing the government coverage mandates, increasing the maximum allowable difference between risk groups, guaranteed renew-ability, & allowing people to shop policies across state lines would all be a good start to bringing down premium costs.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
We must protect & defend U.S. citizens, interests, & allies from terrorism. We should go after the means of funding terrorism, but no tool should be left off the table to address terrorism threats. Including military force when needed.
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Agree
Employers should be required to use E-verify to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
We should encourage people to immigrate LEGALLY to the U.S. that can contribute & assimilate into our communities.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Neutral
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
My faith is very important to me. I believe Jesus is the one & only Savior.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
* I opposed new taxes for street maintenance & made tough decisions to prioritize street maintenance. Resulting in record amounts of funding to improve the conditions of streets without raising taxes. https://bit.ly/2V5Hqcp * Opposed pay increases for City Councilors. https://bit.ly/2RhGJLR * Supported changes to state land use law to make land less expensive & improve the affordability of housing by reducing regulations. https://bit.ly/2JI6kcC * Opposed plastic bag ban on principals of freedom & public health concerns of reusable bags. https://bit.ly/2JGX7Bu
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I'm running for Congress, because I believe the federal government can do a better job addressing the problems of all the residents of the 2nd District. Many residents are struggling with our increasing cost of living and stagnant wages, but too often the issues that impact them are ignored. I have consistently opposed onerous regulations and tax increases. I'm passionate about making Oregon an affordable place to live and to raise a family. I'm a member of the Bend City Council, where I work on policies to make Bend a more affordable place to live. Last year, I worked with Congressman Greg Walden to secure $60.4m of federal funding to realign Hwy 97 in Bend to improve traffic flows and unlock land for housing and jobs. Most importantly, I am committed to listening to the residents of the 2nd District about their ideas for making Oregon an even better place to live, for all of us. CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Nothing more than we already have. We need to properly enforce the current laws, especially making sure all the correct data is inputted into the federal background check system.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
I support BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanction) against Israel if they refuse to allow the creation of a Palestinian state.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Neutral
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1) Infrastructure - many local governments are having to raise existing taxes or create new taxes to address inadequate infrastructure. Infrastructure is a core service of government & it should be a focus at all levels of government. 2) Federal Forest Policy - federal forests burn year after year. We must better manage our forest to address wildfires & create jobs. 3) Second Amendment - support & defend the Second Amendment & advocate for nationwide conceal carry reciprocity.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
I do recognize that there are instances of racism & fight for the individual's right to not be discriminated against. I do not see, in Oregon, systemic racism that would be a threat to domestic security.
