OTHER INFORMATION
QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
None
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
I believe that education spending has to be examined very closely. I would not make a blanket statement that it needs to be reduced, but any funding that is not directly affecting a teacher's ability to teach and a student's ability to learn needs scrutiny. The procurement system for state projects definitely needs an overhaul. But to me one of the biggest items is to take a hard look at is duplicative departments/services.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Neutral
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
It reinforces the right of people to freely live their faith, in private or in public, without the fear of government reprisal or interference.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
Provide the atmosphere and opportunity for healthcare providers and insurance companies to collaboratively work towards a solution.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Only those who are willing to obey the letter of the law and follow the process and procedures in place for legal immigration.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I was raised in a conservative, god fearing household by a firefighter dad and Sunday school teacher mom. God, country and family were taught early and often. I know that I am saved by grace. I know that Christ died for me and was raised again. I am a man of faith.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
I have a nine-year very public voting record as a Councilman in the City of Aurora, CO. From opposition to sanctuary cities to opposition of eminent domain and many other votes during that nine years, my conservative values were very evident. I also was taken to task a number of times in the press for my conservative views.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
On DRGOC - Denver Regional Council of Governments - I served for six years, four of those in leadership, including being the chair in 2017. DRCOG is a 56 member board consisting of elected officials from surrounding cities, towns and counties. Making collaborative decisions that affected the entire region prepared me very well for this office. I was on the Executive Board of CML - Colorado Municipal League for two years. This board promotes and advocates for cities, towns and villages throughout Colorado. I was one of the two board members as a representative in the "Largest City" category. Working with other elected leaders from throughout the State of Colorado also prepared me well for this office. On the Executive Board of AEDC - Aurora Economic Development Council - I have had the opportunity to interact with key business leaders and other elected officials throughout the area as well as advocating for Colorado with our federal delegation.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
There are three questions above that I answered either Neutral or No Answer. If given the opportunity, I'd love to give a more robust reason for those answers. With this text box only allowing 1,000 characters, that is not enough for me to do here. My name is Bob Roth and I am a Candidate for Senate District 26. I am a third generation Coloradoan, and was born in Leadville. My dad's family were farmers in northeastern Colorado and my mom's family were cattle ranchers in southern Colorado. I was raised with two brothers and a sister. My value system was established early by my parents. God, country and family were woven into the fabric of who I am. "Yes sir" and "No ma'am" were common in our home. I served with distinction on Aurora City Council for two terms. During that time, I was voted Mayor Pro Tem twice by my council colleagues. If I have the honor to serve as the next Senator for District 26, I will never forget who I serve.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
No Answer
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I do not believe any additional restrictions are necessary. It is my belief that people who want to do harm to others will follow through. The weapon or method is not the issue, it is the hearts of men and women. Further, people who want to do harm are not going to obey any new laws, just like they do not obey the ones in place now. Any restrictions will only affect law-abiding citizens.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Neutral
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1) School choice for K-12 as well as better promotion of trade and vocational school options for people who don't fit the mold of, or chose not to pursue, a traditional 4-year education. 2) Repairing our aging infrastructure and finding funding for it, without adding new tax burden on the citizens. 3) Continuing to find creative ways to capture, store and deliver water to the people of Colorado. As a headwater state with a very arid climate, we have to protect this very precious resourse.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes. Neo-Nazi's, White Supremacist's and other such fringe groups are very real and are definitely a threat to our peace and way of life. The CELL (Counter Terrorism Learning Lab) has great information and programs on these threats and I am active in educating myself and encouraging others to do the same.
