QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I believe in the sanctity of life and that it begins at conception. If a pregnant woman was assaulted by a stranger and she lost her baby, that person could and should be charged with infanticide. Why is it allowable for the mother to terminate the child? Using the same logic of consistency, doctors could theoretically be put in a situation where they would have to make a choice that may put one life in danger for the sake of another. This could be due to a lack of resources, time or any number of possible circumstances. Under these conditions, the physician must make a decision based on the best probability for preserving life. With that in mind, I believe that the possibility exists of a scenario where the mother's life would be more viable than the child's and if the doctor is forced to make that choice, I believe they should be allowed to make that call if their decision making process can be explained. This would only be in extreme cases and should never be applied lightly.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
In my experience in local government it has rarely been only one thing that has needed to be trimmed to balance the budget. Multiple approaches such as zero-based budgeting, scrutinized hiring and promotion practices and incentives to departments for saving money instead of spending money can go a long way towards cutting wasteful spending across the board.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
I interpret "separation of church and state" to mean that no person should be compelled to participate in or support a specific church or faith by the government. Freedom to worship how they want or to not worship at all is an integral right for all Americans. However, the mere presence or existence of Faith in a government institution or event should not be prohibited by those that do not hold that same faith. A common understanding must exist between all benevolent beliefs that coexistence means that exposure to one faith doesn't equate to coercion to follow that faith. But I also think it means that faith institutions should not influence the operation of government through direct politicization of their followers if they wish to be recognized as a tax-free entity.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
The United States has the best educated, trained, equipped and innovative medical practices in the world. I am convinced that the free market can better serve people than a government institution. Compare almost any privately run hospital to the Veteran's Administrations efficiency for a perfect example. We need to relax the burdens and restrictions on private insurance and allow them to compete for the best solution to providing effective and affordable care. I also believe that a safety net should be available for catastrophic incidents that even a responsible citizen would have trouble shouldering. And for those who cannot, for whatever reason, afford reasonable healthcare or if it is not available to their area, the community should bind together to provide facilities with a focus on preventative care. Taliaferro County is a great example to follow with the BOE, County Commission, Church and private industry partnering together to create a public health clinic.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
I think that immigration should be open to all citizens of the world that have clean records and wish to have a better life. We are a nation of immigrants and for those wishing to be citizens, I firmly believe that they should be willing to assimilate into the American culture, including a willingness to learn and speak English which I believe should be the official language of the United States. They should also be required to pledge allegiance to our nation's laws and security. Regarding resident aliens, there is a great need for migrant labor and I would encourage laws that would benefit those who are following the rules to make the process more streamlined and effective for those who wish to live and work as a functional member of our society. That being said, we need stronger controls and enforcement on who is entering the nation and how they will be tracked while they are here.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Augusta, GA. I was raised in a Christian home and with strong beliefs in a just and omnipotent God. I believe that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. I also believe that the Lord is benevolent, generous and kind, but that he helps those who are willing to help themselves. I hold with the phrase I once read; "That God put the firewood there, but that every man must gather and light it himself." And those same Christian values tell me to take care of those that cannot, for reasons not their own, take care of themselves. It is our job as citizens, neighbors and human beings to show compassion for those less fortunate. But it is not government's job to mandate that compassion or the manner in which it should be displayed or distributed.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
For twelve years, I have been a Commissioner of one of the most conservative counties in Georgia. My voting record and minutes supporting it will show that I have always prized private property rights, individual liberty and strong law enforcement as tenants of our society. I have also been an active member of the Republican Party since my youth and have worked on numerous campaigns of conservative leaders such as; Kemp for Governor 2018,Nathan Deal for Governor 2010 @ 2014, George W. Bush for President 2000 & 2004, Guy Millner for Governor ‘98, Dole/Kemp for President ‘96, Guy Millner for Senate ‘96, Guy Millner for Governor ‘94 & Jack Kemp for President ‘88.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I have been involved in politics my entire life and have served several campaigns from local Councilman to statewide Gubernatorial and Senate races in both voluntary and professional capacities. I have also been involved on the ground floor of government in multiple roles including my three terms as Columbia County Commissioner, under which tenure: we not only never raised property taxes but lowered them multiple times and became the ONLY county government of our size to achieve a AAA bond rating from all three rating agencies. I've also served on the Department of Community Affairs working to support small and rural communities through multiple initiatives and grant programs. And for five years I've been on the State Board of Education seeing first hand how government education works, doesn't work and offers opportunity for improvement.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I live in Columbia County with Susy, my wife of 26 years, my 20 year old son James who is an Air Force Cadet in his third year at the University of Georgia and my 15 year old daughter Catherine who is a talented artist and a High School Freshman. I'm a candidate with strong Conservative values running for improved Education and Workforce, Local Control, Law & Order, support of Agriculture and a plan to address Rural Broadband and Healthcare. My experience as a devout Republican in public service as well as my entrepreneurial and leadership background has prepared me well for a position in a setting such as this and I would consider it a great honor to be given the opportunity to be a part of such an exciting moment in Georgia’s great history by serving as the next Senator for the people of the counties making up District 23. My name is Trey Allen and I would appreciate your vote as the next State Senator for Georgia.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I do not believe in the restricting of 2nd Amendment rights to lawful citizens. For those that prove themselves incapable of responsible gun ownership through their actions, I believe they forego those rights.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Strongly Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1)Education/Workforce - I plan to focus on K-12 education and CTAE, as well as college prep for our graduating students. 2)Agriculture - Protect our #1 business in Georgia, a $75B industry. Provide resources to Ag and rural communities like healthcare and broadband. 3)Crime - Use relationships with law enforcement officials at the Federal, state and local level to bring criminals to justice and rescue innocent victims from their control and negative influence.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism is a scourge no matter who its target is. Illogical hatred of any group can create radical and sometimes violently extreme actions. As an American, I believe that any attack against one of us is an attack against all of us. Do I believe that racism is a threat, I do. Do I believe that it exists in the hearts and minds of people of every race, sadly I do. Therefore, a uniform educational focus on what unites us as a people instead of the things that divide us is my preferred answer. Preach tolerance and peace to all people, it's not a lesson that only one group needs to hear. We could all be regularly reminded of our shared humanity and the common ideals that should bind us together. I also believe in standing united and strong against those that would attack us for who we are or what we stand for.
