QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Agree

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

ECONOMY

School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.

Strongly Disagree

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

The North Carolina Constitution requires a free and equal public school for all North Carolina citizens from grades 1-12. I do not favor free college tuition paid by the taxpayers. I do favor parental choice in public schools. Parents should be able to choose the best school for their children, rather than a mandated zip code driven pupil assignment policy. Parents should be free to choose the public school their children should attend, including charter schools and private schools----and the per pupil expenditure should follow the student.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Strongly Agree

School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Students should not be allowed to pray in school.

Strongly Disagree

Nothing in the US Constitution mandates that religious freedom ends at the schoolhouse steps. Someone has famously and humorously said that as long as there are tests in school, there will be prayer in schools. My view is that as long as there are public schools, there will be religious freedom within the walls of those schools-----for students, faculty and all employees.

HEALTHCARE

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

Government, school and/or employers should rightfully be wary of coercive measures regarding healthcare. Government agencies, et. al., should be aware of the reasons for citizens vaccination refusals and provide legal and political ways to address those concerns, especially in light of the experimental nature of current vaccines and that acceptance of vaccines can be tantamount to agreement to participate in experimentation.

EDUCATION

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

Parents are first teachers of their children. School Boards have a responsibility for transparency and accountability to parents, who are the chief stakeholders as well as chief financial sources for public education. Opportunities for parents to address their concerns and needs to school boards should extend beyond formal school board meetings to other appropriate forums where extended conversations with policy makers should be maximized.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, American History, Language Arts, Arts and Music, Vocational Learning, Foreign Language

American civics education should emphasize our nation's founding principles of liberty and equality.

Strongly Agree

Before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.

Strongly Agree

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Strongly Agree

I support the teaching of curricula (such as the 1619 Project, No Place for Hate, Second Step, etc.) that emphasizes slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.

Strongly Disagree

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

What is the function of the local school board?

The school board represents the community's voice in public education. It provides citizen governance as well as knowledge of the community's needs and resources. School board members are the public policy makers closest to the students and their parents and families. School boards derive their authority and power from the state. One of the most important functions of school boards is to increase and optimize student achievement and preparation for work and higher learning.

Do you support the National School Board Association's characterization of parents who speak out at school board meetings as "domestic terrorists"?

No

This ridiculous and absurd assertion only belies the NSBA's self-identified 'woke' agenda.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

In North Carolina, the State School Board sets the curriculum standards and the Legislature appropriates funds.

Who has the ultimate right to control the education of children in public schools? (a) parents (b) teachers (c)school boards.

Parents

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a conservative, evangelical Christian Protestant believer.

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

Parents. Sexual education is a complicated and touchy subject for parents and families. Children should be taught early on---perhaps in the first couple of years, that there are two different genders---boys and girls. Appropriate education are critical in influencing the way children think about and act relative to unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

I do not support the teaching of Sex Ed.

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Strongly Agree

EQUALITY

I support the teaching that an individual, solely by virtue of his or her race, is inherently racist, whether consciously or unconsciously.

Strongly Disagree

The so-called Critical Race Theory is a pernicious pedagogical paradigm based upon an ivory tower concept and provides no scientific or historical predication for its outrageous assertions. The idea that babies are born racist is bereft of any historical, religious, theological, or biological reality. In fact, it is the most racist 'theory' known to mankind.

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Strongly Disagree

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

Wikipedia detailing bio and narrative of public service. Articles in the Greensboro, High Point, Winston Salem, Raleigh, Charlotte and other North Carolina major media outlets.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I believe parents are the first teachers. I believe all students can learn---socio-economic, cultural, social background, gender notwithstanding. Public education should provide the opportunity for students to learn the basics of reading, writing and math to enable them to acquire coping skills for life, pursue employment to support themselves and their family, pursue further academic learning in college and graduate school as well as develop the ability to acquire a vocational skill and run their own business.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?

Most all schools require school children to be immunized for polio, measles, mumps, rubella, Tdap and chicken pox. Very few require rotavirus, flu or HPV vaccines. Many public health officials and vaccine historians consider it is not time to require covid vaccines for children. I agree with that assessment. We are in a polarized----and, in my opinion, still an experimental moment for vaccine mandates and I am not convinced that covid vaccines should be added to the vaccine mandate portfolio.

I support mask mandates.
