QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I am pro-life, with very few exceptions, those being rape, incest, and the life of the mother. I am also strongly opposed to the use of taxpayer dollars to fund abortion.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Our nation was founded on Judeo-Christian values. While I do believe that we should not force our religious beliefs on others, I do believe that we have, at times, strayed a bit far from those values. We have taken God out of many things in our society, including our schools. This is one reason why my wife and I have decided to provide our children with a Catholic education. Some people misinterpret the goal that we should have freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I am a proponent of a free market and I do not think that it is the government's responsibility to provide healthcare coverage to the individual. However, I do believe that healthcare providers and insurance companies should work together to responsibly educate individuals about their health care options in a transparent manner.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
I'm running for Indiana State Senate and we have a balanced Hoosier budget.
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
I'm running for Indiana State Senate. This is largely a Federal issue. While improvements could be made to our current immigration system, we do have a system in place that allows for immigration. Opening our borders without reasonable controls would be anarchy.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
As a U.S. Marine, government contractor, correctional officer, police officer, narcotics detective, and homicide investigator, I have seen national security, crime, and punishment from many angles. None of those angles have caused me to believe that we should restrict legal and law-abiding citizens from gun ownership. We need to keep guns out of the hands of serious and repeat violent criminals. This is why I have been a life member of the National Rifle Association.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Strongly Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
I want to focus on policies that: 1. Continue to keep Indiana financially healthy and promote transparency in Government. 2. Support our Hoosier Veterans, Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters, and EMS personnel by encouraging bleeding-edge resources and training to keep them safe and effective. The physical and mental well-being of our heroes is very important to me. 3. Make Indiana an even stronger place for entrepreneurs to start and grow a business.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Anything that has the potential to divide Americans can be a threat to our security.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
I have voted consistently as a Republican for many years and have donated extensively to Republican conservative candidates for many years. I am a member of several local Chambers of Commerce and have promoted a free market by creating entrepreneurship opportunities for hundreds of individuals and small businesses. I am also a life member of the National Rifle Association.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I have a diverse background that may allow me to provide key insights into a variety of issues concerning the State Legislature. My service abroad in the Marine Corps gives me insight into how precious our security, rights, and freedoms truly are here in the U.S. and how important it is to protect them. My time as a correctional officer, patrol officer, narcotics detective, and homicide investigations supervisor give me the contextual experience it takes to understand how our social fabric is breaking down at the family level. It gives me insight into the minds/health of our law enforcement officers, crime & punishment, and how all of that relates to our security. My experience in owning several businesses gives me a passion for how local and state governments can help or hinder economic development and small business through transparent programs or unnecessary red-tape.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I have a diverse background and can relate to many issues. But, most importantly I am a good listener and I simply want to be a voice for the citizens in Senate District 20.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am, like all of us, a sinner. I am a believer in God and strive to love Him with all of my heart as well as lead my family in faith. I believe Jesus Christ to be my Lord and Savior. My family and I attend Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Noblesville, IN. My wife and I have chosen to educate our children in the Catholic Church in hopes that they will be moved by the Holy Spirit and instilled in our beliefs. Our two youngest attend the grade school at Our Lady of Grace and our oldest is a Sophmore at Guerin Catholic High School. We attempt to engage with our faith community through service at our Church, such as the finance council, PTO, fundraising, and coaching in Catholic Youth Organization sports. My spiritual beliefs began with a foundation in Christianity in my youth, were challenged by military and police department experiences, and have been emboldened in my more mature years. It has been and will continue to be a journey with God.
