QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
I support the current Florida 6-week heartbeat standard. My support for "heartbeat legislation" was documented by the Sun Sentinel during my 2020 run for Congress. I have always been consistent on this position, even before the overturning of Roe.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Strongly Agree
The legal basis under which those drugs received expedited FDA approval needs to be investigated and challenged.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers should receive no government funds and should have to meet the same medical requirements as hospitals performing comparably dangerous procedures.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
This is a dangerous precedent that will lead to abuse and tragedy.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
Free enterprise and private property rights are essential to democratic societies, period. History has shown us that when governments take control of large portions of the public economy it always leads to poverty, loss of freedoms, and infringement on private worship.
What is your position on the minimum wage?
At this point the Florida minimum wage will likely stay at $15 dollars due to it passing through Constitutional amendment. I oppose any further increases at this time.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
No
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
None. This does not include basic financial reasons such as non-payment of taxes or mortgages.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
The caveat is that it must be an objection to the specific service being provided, not the customer to which the service is provided.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
I believe that some basic vaccination requirements are acceptable in public school because Florida also has a strong school choice program to provide alternatives for objectors. I am opposed to the Federal government mandating vaccines.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
They are our single biggest foreign military threat. We cannot underestimate the danger posed by their military buildup and aggressive position towards Taiwan.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
The State of Israel is the only true guarantor of "Never Again". October 7th proved that we cannot be complacent against the evil of antisemitism.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
A properly enforced immigration system is the fairest scenario for both our U.S. Citizens and for those whose dream is to join us. Incentivizing people to come here illegally, without any regard for what type of life they will find or whether they'll get a job, is devastating to everyone involved.
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Strongly Agree
Florida supports school choice 100% and the benefits are undeniable.
VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Strongly Agree
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Neutral
I believe that no government has the right to tell a church body how to define marriage or to force a church to conduct a specific marriage ceremony. With that said, the State has the right to determine its own rules for unions between citizens.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a fairly reserved person when it comes to faith and tend to adhere to tenets of Lutheranism. I believe that the most important things an individual can do are to remember that God is above us all, and to remember that hubris is the root of all evil. We are, by nature, self-centered creatures who will falter and sin. Our command is to reflect on why we have done something, admit our faults, sincerely ask for forgiveness, and to show our sincerity by changing our behaviors.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
Voters should have to prove who they are and should be verified as U.S. citizens.
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Strongly Disagree
The electoral college is part of our system of checks and balances. Believing that the president should be chosen based on popular vote is similar to believing that we should have a parliament and not a bicameral legislature. Our Founding Fathers designed our system with full knowledge of the British Parliamentary system and specifically chose not to copy it.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
I have not seen any evidence that racism is the leading cause of crime, civil disturbance, or domestic terrorism. Before such a strong statement is made, it must be supported by evidence.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Critical Race Theory is inherently racist. Its own proponents have literally stated that racial discrimination can be used as a tool for fixing past wrongs. This is entirely against the teachings of Dr. King, the Torah, and the Bible.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
I agree with statements A and C. I also agree partially with D) in that the climate is changing and we need to be proactive in assessing the consequences. I disagree that "urgent policy actions" are required because those policies are always punitive, and taxation based. I do believe we should incentivize research and energy efficiency.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Nuclear power. I am a nuclear engineer and worked in nuclear plants for 8 years. The U.S. nuclear industry has a strong, safe track record and has provided 15-20% of our electricity for decades.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No.
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
To allow a society to function by protecting against external threats and by providing a method in which disputes (or crimes) between citizens can be resolved.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I believe in adherence to the second amendment.
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Choose not to answer
I am willing to consider programs in which a trained and certified teacher can supplement the role of school safety officer. I do not support a blanket allowance for teachers to carry firearms given that they are public employees and the State bears responsibility for their qualifications.
