OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

Taxpayers should not be made to contribute to the death of infants in the womb.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Neutral

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Life of the mother, rape, incest

ECONOMY

Redistribution of income is needed to lessen the gap between the wealthy and working classes.

Strongly Disagree

Disincentivizing citizens from trying to achieve their best lives weakens the nation.

The government should cut spending in order to reduce the national debt.

Agree

It depends on whether or not the nation is in dire need, such as funds to avoid extinction (by war)

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

The tax code should be changed so that moving businesses out of the U.S. is not subsidized in any way.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

Freedom of religion is freedom of thought. Without freedom of thought, freedom itself is impossible.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

This dovetails with religious freedom. You cannot allow someone to have freedom of religion and then force them to act in opposition to that belief.

What should be the relationship between the church and the state?

The Constitution is clear. There shall be no establishment of religion. This was included to make sure there was no State preferred religion as existed in the institution of the Church of England. Many of the colonists came to the New World to get out from under the thumb of being persecuted by state sponsored churches in Europe. Otherwise, I believe the concept of 'Separation of Church and State' has been misapplied to the Constitution and needs to be re-assessed.

HEALTHCARE

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

None. If we don't have freedom to decide what we put in our bodies, that could subject us to all sorts of harm. For instance, there are no long-term studies on the effects of Covid19 vaccinations on children. There hasn't been time. If it turns out that it damages their hearts, it would be tragic for a generation.

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

C) Those who are aged and in the government health care system would have no way of providing for their health care if it was taken from them. It is unfortunately the case that we cannot relieve the world of human misery, and it is folly to try. But just because we can't do everything doesn't mean we can't do something.

NATIONAL SECURITY

With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.

B) We should intervene when and as we can when our national security is threatened. We cannot fight all battles, but we should be able to preserve the ideal of freedom in the world as something that can be striven for.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Strongly Disagree

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

The Chinese have told us that they plan to replace us the pre-eminent global superpower. Since they are by definition a fascist government (check any dictionary for a definition of fascism), that is very dangerous. They have infiltrated every critical sector of our nation and taken what they want from it. So, I think we need to take the threat they pose VERY seriously.

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

Identify terrorism hot spots. Terrorism does not pervade the entire Middle East. There are places that generate more terrorists than other places. We should strive to know what's going on in those locations.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

There is no getting around it, we are being invaded as I write this. This invasion is being enabled by the Biden administration. In not protecting the southern border, not only is there the chance that terrorists could slip in, the cartels are using illegals to distract from incidents of drug running and human trafficking. It is tragic that the Left, which blames America for the heinous treatment of slaves back in the day, turns a blind eye to modern slavery. Unacceptable then and now!

State and federal funds shall be denied to any public or private entity, such as a sanctuary city, that is not in compliance with immigration laws.

Strongly Agree

You cannot have two captains of a ship, because, if they disagree, the ship will go nowhere. The federal government has jurisdiction over immigration law, and these laws should be respected and enforced.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

It's not a question of who can come, but who can't. There is no type of person who should be excluded. The answer lies in what immigrants can bring to the country, as well as our capacity to absorb them. There most be a limiting principle, else the poor of the world will simply walk across our border, and access our social safety net. We can't afford that. So there must be numerical limits, as well as resources, human and/or material that immigrants can contribute.

VALUES

Sexual orientation and gender identity should be protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Strongly Agree

People are who they are. I remember when I was in grade school that some of the boys were a little different, and they ended up in later life being gay. They didn't choose being gay, they were gay. You can't penalize someone for being born a certain way -- they had no choice in the matter. Extend that across other classes, and you understand why they should be protected.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

CRT is a divisive ideology that cherry picks certain pieces of our past to obtain a political advantage today. There are some terrible things in our past, and they should be taught in schools. But it should all go in, not just some of it. That includes the parts where people united to get rid of slavery, Jim Crow, and plain old official discrimination. It should ALL go in, the good and the bad. Only when we have a true picture of what happened can we get a sense of the progress we've made.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I was raised Baptist, and was a fundamentalist in the Church of Christ when I was in college. As I saw more of life, I acquired doubts. I no longer believe in the whole Bible because there are parts of it that claim homosexuality is a sin. As I wrote above, my life experience has taught me that it is not a choice, so I don't see how it can be a sin. I believe this though I am not gay myself. I hope there is a God in Heaven whose son is Jesus, and that I will see my parents in Heaven when I die.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

The most important thing we do is choose our leaders, because in choosing them, we choose how we are to be led. It does not seem unreasonable to me, and if the polls are to be believed, to the vast majority of Americans, to have as secure safeguards on voting as there are on entering a federal building or boarding an airplane.

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

No mail in ballots, unless they are requested by persons with a valid excuse for not voting in person. The potential for fraud in mail in ballots is too high to risk. I believe that I speak for all loyal Americans when I say that we will respect the will of the voters in any election, so long as it actually the will of the voters that elects the candidate to office, and not some underhanded vote manipulation.

EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

Where would it stop? No one alive today either was a slave or had slaves. I believe strongly in the equality of the races. Bob Woodson of the Woodson Center, and the four Black High Schools in Washington, DC back in the late 1910's and early 1920's have proved that mentally we are equal. And anyone who thinks Blacks are inferior physically is obviously mis-informed. My point is that Blacks don't need me to do anything for them except get the government out of their way. They'll do the rest.

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

The 'trumpeting' of racism is a problem. I don't see racism in my life. They tell me it exists, and it may somewhere. I take people as I find them, and I either like them or don't like them on their own merit. Race is never a factor in my relationships. I think most people are like me. But there are those who try to use past discrimination for political advantage now. And they teach a version of it in schools (CRT). We need to stop people dividing us along racial lines for political gain.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.

Strongly Agree

We now know that Russia and China infiltrated the global environmental movement with the aim of sabotaging at that level our hydraulic fracking extraction industry. They did this to undercut our economy and make us less able to support our allies in times of need. We need to completely reassess where we are in energy production because of this knowledge.

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

A) Given the recent revelation that the environmental movement was infiltrated by some agents of state actors who want to derail us, we have to re-assess our energy production. Russia and China have used the environmental movement to prevent us from optimizing our energy resources. Energy is the life blood of any economy and we have to have enough for ourselves and to supply some for our allies. There are ways to get to this with minimal impact on the environment, and we need to pursue them.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

I believe strongly in individual responsibility. Using a sports analogy, I want to be a member of a winning team. Every team is only as good as what each team member brings to it. America is a team, and we need can do people to make and keep the team strong. That means we need good educations, and the freedom to do what we think is best with our lives. This is my guiding star. But, as I said above, I am Christian leaning without condemning homosexuality. So I don't think I am Very Conservative.

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

To tell you the truth, I didn't get much chance to speak publicly in the last election cycle because of Covid19, that was the first time I ran. I haven't been very active this time until just recently. I expect to start doing radio interviews very shortly, and should be able to post some of these soon.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No.

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

I have an immense breadth of job experience, having worked in a factory, been in management of a large corporation, been an attorney practicing several kinds of law, and been a residential real estate appraiser for over a quarter of a century. I have also been on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Professional Appraisers Coalition. Because of my experience I can relate to almost anyone. I am also a student of history and science. I will be focusing on energy legislation, among others.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Strongly Agree

The police are what protects civilization from anarchy. There is a reason we have the words 'crime' and 'criminal'. When we subject them to unfair scrutiny we endanger the entire profession. Who will do this essential job for the money they make where they could lose their life on any given day if they are not protected from being bankrupted by unreasonable prosecution? They deserve our gratitude, not disapproval.

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Strongly Disagree

If we need more resources for mental health and community programs, we need to get it from somewhere else than police departments. I never saw a police department where the police made too much money.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

If someone has mental problems (demonstrated by documentation), or if they are felons, they shouldn't be allowed to have firearms. Otherwise, the right to keep and bear arms is enshrined in the Second Amendment to the Constitution. As such, it is an absolute right.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.

Strongly Disagree

Would we allow someone who was struck with a car the right to sue automobile manufacturers? Or a stabbing victim to sue a knife manufacturer. That doesn't make any sense. Guns, like knives, and screwdrivers are tools.
