QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Agree
If the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, North Carolina should repeal its law allowing abortion up to 20 weeks of pregnancy.
No Answer
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
In rare cases of rape, incest and if the health of the mother is at risk. I personally do not condone elective abortions. My Christian faith dictates to me that if a mother chooses to make the decision to have an elective abortion, we (the church) family and friends will be there to support the mother with love and counseling as she processes the emotional and health affects of having the abortion. We will be there for her and her partner if necessary to help them recover and heal from that decision.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Agree
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
No Answer
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
That the state/government does not implement, or force the recognition of one religion over another in the United States, and not requiring all who live in the U.S.A to practice that religion.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Neutral
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
One of my campaign issues is to reduce or eliminate out of pocket expenses for inpatient and outpatient procedures. Insurance companies should pay for the services authorized by a provider. The consumer should be insured and the providers should accept that payment from the insurer. The consumer should not be billed if they are insured. Accessibility is not usually a problem in metro urban areas. Rural healthcare access is more of a challenge. I would like to expand telemedicine options for those in rural areas, and incentivize providers to expand that care. Sliding fee options should be more available than what we currently have. Expansion of FQHC's in the state and community health centers is a good way to gave more people access to care at very little cost.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Agree
State, sheriff and local law enforcement agencies should be required to participate in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) 287(g) Program to enhance the safety and security of their communities to identify and detain aliens.
No Answer
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Those seeking to come to the U.S. from other countries should be those who add value to our country and who can help make it better with their skills, training and education. They should help fill the jobs we need employees for in our country/state. Teachers are needed in the areas of science and math. Employees that can work in healthcare as personal care and home health aides are needed in hospitals, nursing homes and community settings. As well as nursing assistants. Drivers are also needed for the transportation industry.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Neutral
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Neutral
I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.
Disagree
Parents should have the right to know what schools are teaching their children about sex and LGBT issues and should have the right to opt their children out of any instruction to which they object.
Agree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
Christian
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
N/A
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I am the only candidate in this race that has city planning, education, job creation and deep community service experience. I'm a business owner since 2003 and local employer providing jobs that support individuals and families across the U.S I have served my community and provided added value as a member of the “Committee for the Future of Cary” for 3 years. The Committee for the Future developed a comprehensive plan for the next 25 years for the City of Cary. Covering infrastructure, transportation, water treatment, walk-able communities, services for growing “boomer “populations, the elderly, economic development and the re-purposing of empty retail stores for other uses, all while supporting growth. I have worked in the healthcare sector for over 20 years in various operational positions, running clinics, support programs and staffing agencies. I have 7 years of school board experience. All my kids graduated from the Wake County Public School System.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
Gil brings a rational, logical and unemotional approach to resolving problems and has a creative mind set that looks at challenges from the outside, looking in. Presenting unique solutions to problems we are facing in our district, but also the state. Gil knows how to ask the tough questions and get answers. He knows how to create jobs, attract employers to the state, address issues in the healthcare delivery system, fix education challenges in our state and work on infrastructure to support the growth of the state. He practices the 3 c's of governing. He's compassionate, caring and clear.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
No Answer
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
We should keep guns out of the hands of criminals, and prosecute those who use firearms in criminal acts. Felons in possessions of firearms should also be prosecuted. Many cities do not pursue full prosecution of those who should not have firearms. They are released back into the community to do more harm. Those who are mentally ill should not have firearms. How this is enforced is a bit more challenging, but we need creative solutions that protect our second ammendment rights.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1. Reduce or eliminate out of pocket expenses for healthcare for those who are insured. 2. Cover the cost of healthcare for the severely developmentally disabled and severely handicapped. 3. Cap Wake County property tax increases to a maximum of 2.5 every 3 years via legislation.
