QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
When the life of the mother is in dire jeopardy.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
We are fortunate in Florida that we are mandated to have a balanced budget.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Strongly Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Exactly what it says and I do not agree that the government at any level should determine if a church should assemble. It should be based on the decision of the individual entities.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I do not feel that the Affordable Care Act has provided affordable care at all. I would like the option of Catastrophic Health Care with a health savings account. I would like to provide an option of larger risk pools to assist individuals with pre-existing conditions.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
I support President Trump and we should prioritize immigration based on merit. People that immigrate to the United States need to do so legally.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I was raised a devout Roman Catholic, a Pro-Life, Pro-Gun Conservative and patriotic;all values I've embraced into adulthood. I pledge to evaluate all issues through a conservative lens, promoting free enterprise and protecting our constitutional freedoms. I promise to protect the American and Florida dream of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
My position statements are all on my website donnabarcomb.com. I was the only candidate in my race rated "highly qualified" by the Christian Family Coalition. I support the Sarasota Medical Pregnancy Center I am the mother of 4 sons. I have a Palm Card that illuminates my positions that reflect a conservative view. I support President Trump. I am Republican and have been since I was 18 years old.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I have lived in my district for 33 years. I have raised four sons that all graduated from the Sarasota County Public Schools in the district. I own a business in the district and my husband owns a business in the district. I have a continued 30 year legacy of giving back to my community as a volunteer and leader of nonprofits in my community. I have successfully run for five out of five all county elections reaching chairman of both elected positions on the Sarasota Memorial Hospital Board and Sarasota County Charter Review Board.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No I have not.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
Sarasota is the place I love and call home home. Now more than ever we need to send an experienced conservative Republican voice to Tallahassee to fight for Sarasota. A person that has lived in Sarasota, owns a business in Sarasota and has raised a family in Sarasota. I will look at every issue through a conservative lens protecting our constitutional freedoms, keeping taxes low and decreasing regulations. I promise to keep the American and Florida dream alive and pledge to protect Sarasota, its unique values and character.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I am a strong proponent of the second amendment and would oppose any initiatives that would alter that right to own, carry, and use guns. I do believe we should restrict access of gun purchase/use by the mentally ill or convicted felons.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Strongly Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1. I will prepare to prioritize for budgetary changes and to foster a pro-growth environment by keeping taxes low and decreasing regulations. 2. We need to keep Sarasota a great place to work, play and raise a family by protecting our environment. Sarasota saw firsthand the ravages that red tide can have on our economy, health, quality of life and our marine life. I will support the continued funding of the big infrastructure projects to Lake Okeechobee and funding towards mitigation of red tide and blue-green algae. I will continue to support the funding of Forever Florida and the purchase of wetlands that are natural filtration systems. I will also support Best Practice Management for water use and conservation.3.Funding for education to include K-12, supporting B.E.S.T. initiative, vocational initiatives, scholarships for post-secondary apprenticeships, low tuition for public universities, support of public school choice and scholarships for private school choice
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Currently yes if individuals are allowed to exercise activities that are not within the law. Peaceful protests are acceptable and within our constitutional rights, however that does not include violence nor destruction of property.
