QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
If the child will not survive or is still and the mother would not survive
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
The majority of our spending is in education and health, which creates significant pressure on the remaining needs. I would look to take a balanced approach to reduce spending and make sure individual counties and cities understand our process. Our current econmomy may not support
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Strongly Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
That the "state" does not mandate a specific church or denomination. It does not mean religion is to be kept apart from our daily lives and confined to our churches and homes.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
We have work to do in tort reform as well as creating incentives for small business to offer insurance as a benefit to employees. We must allow the market to work and not try a one size fits all approach. In addition, we need to create more opportunities for qualified students to attend medical school, nursing programs, PA programs, etc to improve our access to medical care.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
We have a labor shortage in many areas. Immigration, I feel, needs to be tied closely to available jobs, with the understanding that if the jobs are seasonal or temporary then the immigration is also time specific. Our policy should have a strong economic component that reviews needs based upon the individual being an asset to our country not a liability.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a blood bought born again child of the most high God. I believe Jesus was born of a virgin, walk the earth as a mortal, was crucified for my sins, died, and was raised three days later to again walk this earth before ascendind to heaven. I believe the Bible is the devine word of God.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
My previous service on the Sebring Utilities Commission where we lead a conversion to what is now Duke Energy, my years of service on the Highlands County School Board, and my community service including my Church all support who I am.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
While I have a BS degree and was a better than average student, I feel my experience as a small business owner, industry leader, school board member, and active community volunteer are of much greater importance than my formal education.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I have been very involved in our community, both professionally and personally, and consider that to be a necessity for anyone that intends to represent their community. I have been in positions of leadership through out my career, and that is evidenced by my current chairmanship of the Florida Citrus Commission. I am an active member of the First Baptist Church of Sebring as is my wife Tammy. I have always felt James chapter 5 vs 12 set an example for how we should approach our lives. "let your yea be yea and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation. We need to be who we are and let others know what we stand for. I have always kept an open mind, but I do want others to understand my position.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
We have ample restrictions, we need to enforce the one in place.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Strongly Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1) Improvement to private property rights to include access to water for agricultural interest and a more central oversight for water policy 2) Provide an opportunity for areas of economic concern to access funding for improved infrastructure that spurs economic development 3)Provide additional opportunities for career and technical education to our K-12 students while including our State College system as a natural extension of the process.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism is a threat as we continue to see almost daily. While it may not be the threat to overthrow our government, we must look for ways to improve upon our current situation. That to me means creating awareness, training of those in position of authority, and improving upon the current education system. We will never eliminate hatred and racism but we must work to not allow it to be prevalent in our society. While I think government plays a role in this, as a society we must do better and not look to our government to fix all of societies problems.
