QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Agree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I am completely pro life. As a man of faith, I believe that every child has the God given right to life, regardless of circumstance. Life begins at conception through natural death.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Strongly Agree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

Yes

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

The term “Separation of Church and State” has become completely misconstrued in the last 50 years. The very first amendment in our Constitution declares our freedom of religion. The idea of this sepration first came about when Baptists ministers wrote to president Thomas Jefferson explaining their concern that their religious freedoms were being threatened. Jefferson assured them in their religious rights, saying there was a “wall of separation between church and state”. Today the notion of separation of church and state has been flipped backwards to make people think that people of faith cannot be a voice of influence in our political process. Separation of church and state by literal definition is unconstitutional because it does not appear in the constitution.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Strongly Agree

HEALTHCARE

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

Strongly Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

I don't believe that government is the solution for healthcare in our country. Without government regulations, competition among providers would bring down prices and make healthcare more affordable for everyone. I believe in less government intervention.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

Thankfully I am running for State Representative in Texas where we have a balanced budget spending. It would be excellent if the federal government could adopt a policy similar to what we have here in our state.

IMMIGRATION

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Strongly Agree

State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.

Strongly Agree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

The words etched in bronze at our Statue of Liberty say, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free . . . “. We are a nation of immigrants, as we always have been. Without question, there are countries in the world whose people face terrible hardship. We are blessed, and anyone who desires to legally come to the United States, who appreciates the liberty that we have and is willing to respect the law of our land as well, is to be welcomed with open arms.

EDUCATION

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.

Strongly Agree

2ND AMENDMENT

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

Yes

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

None, I believe in Constitutional Carry and that all people have the God given right to defend themself. I’m a strong advocate for our God given right and am opposed to any effort that may circumvent what our founding fathers originally intended.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Strongly Disagree

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Strongly Disagree

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?

I would encourage and advocate for bills that continue to keep our state a conservative state. For example: heartbeat bills that promote a pro life agenda, bills that limit government intervention, bills that would reduce unnecessary government spending, and bills that support constitutional carry.

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

The idea of valuing someone less based on the color of their skin, should not be tolerated in any way. I believe that all people are made in the image of God, are equal, and are deserving of the utmost respect as fellow human beings.

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.

Strongly Disagree

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

I have a long history of activism in my community and have spent the last several years serving the people in our neighborhood. Anyone who is near me or even our activity on social media, can clearly see the values I stand for.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

We are blessed to have a citizen legislature made up of people who believe in public service. I believe that my years of service to the people in my district is what qualifies me for State Representative of District 105. I was raised right here in Irving and Grand Prairie and have lived here for the last 15 years. Growing up in ministry, I learned what it means to devote my life to the service of others. In addition to serving our community through the church, I also started a community outreach program in 2016. Since then we have fed thousands of people and given away 3500 backpacks filled with school supplies to students in our schools. I personally pick up thousands of pounds of food each week that goes to families in need. I have made it my priority, to not only know the people in my community, but to help them in every way possible. It is my relationship to the community, my commitment to them, and my actions, that qualify me to represent the people here in House District 105.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

My name is Gerson Hernandez and I was born in Texas and raised right here in Grand Prairie and Irving. As the son of immigrant parents, I have felt first hand, the burden that comes from trying to make a life and provide for your family despite the obstacles. I'm the Founder and Director of a growing community outreach program in our city. Since we started in 2016, we have fed thousands of people and have given away 3500 backpacks filled with school supplies to students in our schools. We are in a precarious time, the America we live in now, is not what it used to be. Our rights as families, as business owners, and even as humans - are in jeopardy. When my children grow up I want to tell them that I did everything in my power to protect them and ensure their rights and their future in Texas. I am an advocate for family values and for the sanctity of life. I believe that our Constitutional rights are God given rights, and I plan to fight for what's right for the people of my district

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Strongly Disagree

Promotion of the LGBT agenda in public schools, including teaching of “sexual orientation” and “gender identity”, is completely inappropriate and should be opposed at the state and local level.

Strongly Agree

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

Thankfully, my minister parents taught me the difference between right and wrong and instilled in me the desire to seek after God at a young age. It is my deep faith in God that shapes my core values and guides my day to day actions and service to my community.
